2006 Mark Herbert Memorial Top 10/20 Rules and Regs.

Welcome to the world's only global ranking of fast Cal-Look cars! The Top 20 contest is for naturally aspirated cars, and the Top 10 contest is for nitrous/turbo cars. One car can enter both contests, as long as it conforms to the rules. For example, a nitrous-powered car could run without nitrous, entering the Top 20 contest, and with nitrous, entering the Top 10 contest.

Our intent is to keep the rules simple and clear with an emphasis on participation and fun. The 2006 rules are as follows:
  • All participants must be in the Member's Section of Cal-Look.com, which are strongly influenced by the traditional California Look. Refer to the Member's section for details on becoming a member.
  • All cars must be licensed for street use and driven on the street. On occasion, random participants may be asked to submit proof of current registration and insurance.
  • All cars must be full-bodied VWs and strongly influenced by the Cal-look style. No dune buggies/rails, etc. will be allowed.
  • All cars must be powered by either a Type I or Type 4 VW-based engine.
  • All cars must remain in the same configuration as when they were run at the track, i.e.: no engine swapping, gearbox swapping, etc.
  • To qualify for the 2006 Top 10/20, you must have run the E.T. since January 1, 2006.
  • While it is not required to submit a time slip with your submission, you may be required to submit proof if a competitor contests your entry.
  • All ET's must be to the third decimal point (i.e.: 12.XXX). Entries submitted short of the required decimal point requirement will automatically have a "9" entered (i.e.: 12.03 will be entered as 12.039). MPH must be submitted to the second decimal point (i.e.: 107.XX). Entries submitted short of the required decimal point requirement will automatically have a "0" entered (i.e.: 12.0 will be entered as 12.00).
  • Cheating will not be tolerated; anyone found to have submitted a false time will be removed from the contest, and may be permanently deleted from the Member's Section.
  • No decals are permitted on the body (only glass).
  • Cars must run carpeting and headliners.
  • Cars must be driven by their owners (no rental drivers).
If you feel that your car qualifies for either of the Top 10 and/or 20 lists, and the car is NOT already listed in the Member's Section, please fill out the application form. If you are currently a member, please email your E.T. and MPH as well as the date that you ran the time to Editor@Cal-Look.com.

Finally, please note that this is not intended to be a "daily driver" contest. The cars listed in the Top 10/20 - many of which are admittedly "high strung" - represent the cream of the crop in high performance, traditional Cal-Look-inspired cars. This contest does not reward reliability, drivability, durability or economy. That being said, many of these cars are on the ragged edge, and Cal-Look.com may exercise its judgment in excluding car(s) that we feel are not in the spirit of the competition.

Please keep in mind that the Top 10/20 contests were created to simply inspire some friendly competition amongst Cal-Look.com Members, as well as to highlight the performance levels of various engine and tranny combinations.

Deadline for entry in the 2008 Top 10 and 20 contests is December 15th, 2007. Winners will receive trophies, all finalists will receive dash plaques.
