I remember buying a VHS copy of this factory video tape 20 years ago. I watched it so much that, sadly, it stopped playing. But, as with all things, YouTube to the rescue:

It’s amazing how far we’ve come; undercoating applied over bare metal with a stick and brush; lead-based paint sprayed wearing nothing more than dust mask, etc. No wonder so many of the painters died of horrible lung diseases!

I went on a factory tour in Stuttgart a few years ago, and the progress has been amazing. That being said, they are still very proud that so much of the modern Porsche is still “made by hand.”

Some cars are still randomly road tested, and watching the engine builders work was impressive.
