Which ones??  I am sure a lot are parked right now or just sitting around in a garage.

Jersey Attitude, a green 63 bug that raced in Pro has been sitting since the late 90's an just surfaced on ebay with the owner still having it.

Squirmen German, from Gene Cook was apparently crushed an taken to the junkyard by some dumb ass

PacMan Ghia is sitting in a garage.

Westmorelands Muscle Bug with the Adam Wik front end was re-painted and now just re sold a little while ago

Kelly Westmorelands Muscle Bug that ran pro was for sale for wayy to much money.

Jaimes Toy and Billy the Kid still race from time to time

Sean Dowdles Twister super pro car has been sold to a guy on the forum an runs a turbo motor

The Rare Hare is sitting in one of the Sartwells shops and apparently isnt to much needed to run again

Jitter Bug is sitting in a garage in New Jersey and apparently owned by someone who screwed a lot of VW people. No one know where he is

Hum Bug has been re-painted, sold an now back with the original family

Chuckles front engined altered was sold to Darren in Michigan an re-painted an runs up there still

X-Terminater was wrecked at MIR a lot of years ago, Rashad Ali owned

Bad Attitude, George Chimalenski owned has been sold an stiill raced out of New Jersey

I owned Sidewinder, a pro car, for a bit then sold it. Sitting in Deleware with a broken trans

Then you have cars like Serious Business, Lethal Weapen, Westmorelands dragster, Robo Bug, Raggedy Anne, Money for Nothen, Tazmanian Devil stretched ghia, Wicked, Dennis an the green Valley VW choptop, John Halls yellow drag buggy, Jack and Karen (husband an wife team) had an orange bug, Guy from P.A with the green ghia an dragster both with water-cooled motors hasn't been out in a long time

Scotty you forgot, your dads car, My orange car, Mike Carlssons Blue Beetle, The Old "Time keeper" , Mini Funny III, Strip Teaser, Strip Teaser II , Riveted  And Dont Forget The Black Kawell Chop Top Squareback. Lots of East Coast cars out there in garages waiting to be Re-Born again.  Lets face it, Not alot of High performance parts distributers  on the east coast. Everything is in Ca.  The next generation is slowly bringing cars out . The prices on everything is alot more plus fewer jobs has taken its toll .

Eric Heyman from P.A with the VW Trends featured 11, sec, all motor street bug was sold an now resides in Western P.A and is for sale

Carey Angels pinkish car with "optimism" on the windhsield was sold an resides in the south, still raced

Ed Stuart I believe passed away and he ran some nice cars

Jimmy Phetteplace still owns a VW shop in Pensacola Florida. One of his dragsters is still raced infrequently. His Fiat is for sale on thesamba

Nasty Boys turned their car into a pro stock looking deal and still runs sometimes. Goes 6.60s I believe

Mike Carlson from NY with the blue super pro bug sold it, wound up in Ohio an was recently for sale on thesamba

Some other still active are Tim Vinkuns out of New York state with the orange 70's bug. Was all motor, now turbo powered and still going. Us, the Pocaros from NJ are still going with the tan bug and I am building another car. Sourcers Apprentice owned by John Martin is making a return,

Then you still have the AutoHaus yellow chop from P.A driven by Mike Williams, Temper Tantrum turbo car from P.A, Dirk Millers super pro car was sold to someone in the Carolinas about 5 years ago,  Honey I shrunk the bus an a pink dune buggy owned by Mike Corbo from P.A,

Ohio Tom....  Its amazing that I am 23 and remember this crap from when I was like 8 years old but don't know what town I worked in 3 days ago!!!

And as far as the above post...Timmy posted while I was typing...so here we go....

Time Keeper is alive and going 6.50s I believe and Wendall Denny Jr. drives it at the bug outs, thats about all.

Kawells type 3 is sitting at their shop, probably never to be run again

Aragona's Mini Funny is around and on Long Island. Last time to the track was about 2006

Riveted is still being raced. I had him first round in Monrovia this past year

One of my favorite cars with a connection to my region is Noel Latour's car... I think it's a '67, and was originally build by a Medford, oregon guy named John Coffman.  Used to be pink with blue and crazy '80s graphics going diagonally down the sides.  April 1990 VW Trends feature was called "Wild Thang."  That was one of the first drag VWs I saw run in Medford '89!!! Woo hoo, the good old days...

Another car that made an impression on me around '90-91 was a metallic blue Oval with yellow headlights running Super Pro that was all steel and said "200 Proof" on the side. I remember being really impressed with that car as a teenager,he always did big sideways burnouts and ran low 7's in a car that looked like a street car.  The last time I saw it run was '92 or so. I always kinda wondered what happened to it.

At Mason Dixon in Hagerstown Gene Cook and I ran into the the guy who ran (and still owns)  the car that was called White Lightning. It was a white ragtop oval with blacked out headlights and flared '70s style rear fenders that ran in Super Pro. It's apparently  been a race car since the '70s,always pulled nice wheelies and ran strong with a small (1800cc range IIRC) motor. It was always one of my favorites in the early '90s,I don't think it's run since then.

Gene and I was standing in line at a V8 race waiting for chassis cert when he walked up and started talking VWs.  We were pretty suprised when he told us he had that car. The guy now runs a 9-sec  chevy V8 powered bracket race bug with '59 Caddy fins (seriously..) ,plus a Chevy II and a '59 Impala that he hauls to the track with a semi. He said he's considered getting the White Lightning car back out from time to time.

A good friend of mine bought Sam Leigh's "Evil Beetle" yellow super pro oval at the Bugout in Manassas (was running 6.90s@101)  around '95,ran it a few times, then sold it to someone local and I've never seen it again.

Another Super Pro car..I think his name is Henry Williams ( ?) which is on the door in gold letters- His maroon car has looked EXACTLY the same for years. I have some old IVWA newsletters from the mid '80s and he's been running that car in the same form since then, and I don't think I've been to a VW race that he hasn't been racing!

Yeah,it's gone. The guy parted it out, then cut it up and hauled the remains to the recyclers. That was after he detailied it,spend $$ on redoing all the Vinyl graffics and new wheels etc. All it needed was a motor and it was ready to race again!   Roll Eyes

Peter Soultnais (SP?) owned "200 Proof". I am pretty sure he bought Mini Funny 3.

White Lightning was one of my all time favorites. Old School and hauled ass.

This is a good thread. Keep it going.

The White Ligthening Sedan was actually originally owned by Steve Shook and was an NHRA Gasser that held some record. Shook some of you might remember owned the Ex Jeff Payne, Ex Sterling Adams, Ex Alan Fore 57 Oval, that's now Lee Street's Jokers Revenge. Originally painted in McDonalds NHRA Prostock Theme.

Serious Business is now owened by Barry Neighbors. Bad Attitude 1 and 2 are in Jersey. The first Bad Attitude is now Mopar Inferno red and owned by Jimmie Hooks.

Riveted is being run by Leo Yates out of Manassas.

Hyper Bug is another classic owned originally be Steve Gentry now owned by Adam Baggitt.

Strip Teaser II turned into the second Mega Bug and last I heard Larry Burnette owns it.

What ever happened to Full Metal Jacket that turned in E-Racer?

Shawn Byram bought Dirk Millers old car. The end result of it was you dont TNT on state paved highways after to many natural lights. Then he bought Cary Angels pink car.

Is the White Ligthening oval owned by Dave Fisher out of PA now?

There were a couple cars called Blue Thunder (Sartwell boys had one,and guy named Kim Hinsen from NC had the other)

Eric Heyman from P.A with the VW Trends featured 11, sec, all motor street bug was sold an now resides in Western P.A and is for sale

This is for sale now? Contact info? I can only think of 4 "street" beetles that have run in the 11's in the last 10 years, or so in the Western PA/Eastern Ohio areas, so this car must be in deep hibernation.

The problem I see in my area of Western PA. is that the average life span of a new car is about ten years. The last time I got parts off of an Aircooled VW in a non-VW specialized salvage yard was 1996. With the recent high scrap values of the past two summers, you would be hard pressed to find parts for a car 15 years old in local salvage yards. Most of the younger new generation racers I see are into cars that they can still get cheap parts for at salvage yards. These are mainly 95, and newer Golf's/Jetta's, or 95, and newer Integra's/Civic's. Aircooled VW's are simply no longer driven as true daily drivers, and their popularity decreases with each year. The people mentioned that used to race nice VW drag cars, when they go to sell their cars, they will have a much smaller available audience that would have the interest in Aircooled VW's that they once had. Dougzilla is trying to change this in the Western PA/Eastern Ohio areas by having some VW Bracket Racing at Quaker City Raceway, and forming The North Coast VW Drag Racing Association. Anyone reading this post that personally knows anyone mentioned here, get on their ass, and tell them to start racing their junk again!
