I realize it will take some time for me to get that DVD edited and then posted. For those of you that have posted on this forum thread and who are driving or building 090 automatic transmssions, I will copy and send you the non edited DVD. Just write to me on my e-mail below, give me your full address and I will ship it out by air mail next week. The offer is only valid for a short time. Otherwise it can get out of hand. fredrik.reichel@tetrapak.comAnyone who got my "Pizzo " DVD who can copy me quickly and send to an address in Florida? If yes, write to me on fredrik.reichel@tetrapak.comThanks! This is a special favor I am trying to do for someone and I do not have a copy any longer. I will pay you in full for any costs.

This is just a great forum. I am a person that also runs a VW autotrans , but a 010 . The talk about a trans break is very interesting but i'm a very slow bracket car . I would tho like to inprove my 2nd .gear band from a stock one , kevalar would be great but who does a reline with this material ?. I tried to have a valve body re-valved to a manual shift unit that would be a positive action shift with delay and rpm flare. We spent good money and a fare price with a import perf. trans.co. but it has not been like a domstic manual shift valve body and also looking for a valve body tech that could build/revalve a vb .This i believe is the same more or less the same as the 090 auto unit in the past posts but does not have the ports at the pump end of the case that a cooler would be located . Being a bracket car makes this stuff a must and would really be great if i can get this info , thanks in advance . Been a dubber since the 60's just not a drager till lately .....loder

I have decided to buy a manual shift valve body already converted by Transaxle Engineering in the US.Have also bought a 5" Audi front hub with new steel discs, pressure plate and piston,a new rear hub with a chrome moly centre and a modified piston,a chrome moly pump flower and a new chrome moly drive shaft.I have already fitted a Dave Folts spool to the diff as well as new bearings and seals.I have been looking at ways to do a trans brake, and could use a nitrous solenoid and charge reverse with CO2 to apply the brake-still researching this idea.

Sounds good. I am really curious to your progress.
But why CO2 instead of oil pressure? Quicker and stronger?

I can't believe how long it's taking to get this done.I have finished the engine-Had the case line bored, crank and rods crack tested and balanced.Pro series heads I bought have been prepped with Titanium valves and new springs and keepers.Bought a turbo grind cam,new 1.5 rockers and tapered push rods from Autocraft.I bought a metre of seamless hollow tube and made a new set of cylinders to suit the Arias pistons I had.I have made new intake and exhaust manifolds and the turbo and wastegate are fitted.I bought an 80mm billet throttle body and have made the fuel rails from ally. I cut the body then sent it out to a Panel Beater to have it finished properly. It's away being acid dipped at the moment.A few pics of progress.

Frallen-I was talking to the Bloke who is doing my auto, and he has done the CO2 trans brake before and he claims it works very well. Will see what happens when all the gear arrives from the US.With the 1.5 rockers I bought, the pushrods were rubbing hard on the openings in the head-I tried to offset them to clear-but couldn't get it.I made these plates up,opened up the heads and then screwed these on to give me clearance, worked well.I had to do the normal clearance job on the cam to clear the crank throw.

That is all looking very nice! Of course it takes time. That is just the way it is when you do it yourself and when the quality level is et at Excellence. But that is OK.

Hi todat i recieved my new hurst shifter now i can proceed the work on the tranny again and figure out how to set up the transbrake In my opinion i need to find a way to feed the direct shift valve and ativate it by sending oil pressure to it and i need to get the line press up , And i have to work on the shift overlay so its not bindin up when i shift under full throtlle it takes a lot to calibrate it right so i ll will burn a few tranny s until i got it working good but i have a few spares , i going to set it up with stronger sprags kevlar brake band red eagle friktion plates and more. It wil take about a year or so to make it work but i did it once and so i can do it again. remember this is a street car i will drive it on the street and highway not full race . so it has to shift firm and comfortable . like a real muscle vw . the next project is in the wait room a cvt transmission in my bug. i found a way to make it work but it will take years then i have a incredible fast bug thats for sure . i ll wil keep you updated

You need to lock it in first and reverce at the same time and when you let go of the trans button it will dump the reverce side...

Yes i know to make a transbrake you need the forward direct and low reverse clutch to be activated at the same time. there no reverse clutch in a automatic it works by a combo of clutches . the clutches we have in a vw autobox are forward direct low rev 2nd brake and one way together the make the combo . so its not as simple to feed a reverse with oil because there in no reverse. but a combo of clutches.. gr henri

what did you do about the flexplate, does not seem the 4 dial pins would hold the power or did you go with a bolt on flexplate,we also have just started looking into a auto for a turbo car,,thnks for the nfo so far

I have drilled out the rivets from Type 3 flex plate and also drilled the hub for 8 dowels to suit the Autocraft crank.I bought a small sheet of 4.5mm chrome moly plate to make the drive plate from.I bought some 12.9 grade by 6 mm socket head countersunk screws with a 90 deg head which is the same as the VW hub holes.I am going to make a threaded ring ( about 8mm thick ) and will sandwich the plate between the ring and the hub.I will probably do 2 press in dowells as well. The mounting lugs on the convertor were fully welded while it was apart-so should be strong enough. Will be starting the flex plate soon,so will take some pics as I get into it.

Hi this week i worked on the shifter and brackets and brake pedal. the geometrie of the shifter and box waren t right so i changed that I also removed the clutch pedal and installed a brake pedal from a 66 impala how cool is that. it cost a lot of time but it sits good in its place now. and its verry good for the eye. i cant wait to drive this baby around town and do nice burn outs.
enjoy gr henri

Finally got my trans mounted in the car with the engine attached.I have measured, remeasured and I can't use a type 3 flex plate at all.I don't have enough room between the engine rear plate and the mounting lugs on the convertor. If I could squeeze it all in-it would be size for size-no room for the convertor to have any end float.I have now bought a piece of 20mm thick ally plate and will make a new engine rear plate, and also make a new centre to mount onto the crank.I can now make the flex plate centre boss thick enough to drill and tap to mount the new flex plate with bolts.Have got all the dry sump lines finished, turbo oil drain line, and I am half way through making an alloy breather tank. It's the 100X50mm ally tube above the trans. Will run all the breathers into it.I ended up using a Type 3 floor shifter and used the rear Vanagon cable-just made a stainless clevis and tube to connect to the shifter.

Thanks Henri-I haven't done a trans brake yet,it will take a lot more time and dollars to do,so I am going to try it just on the brakes to begin with and get used to how the car drives.I had already rebuilt the stock shifter and put more load on the detents for each gear,so decided to stay with it.I have the same shifter in my Oval and it drives nice while racing.Yes I bought a full spool from Dave Folts and his special drive flanges.

Got my body back from the painters-started to assemble. Will have the roll cage / pan finished welding this weekend,so I can get it to the paint booth.Still working on the new engine back plate and crankshaft hub, still a few weeks away. All the tanks are in and I have made a breather tank from 100X50mm Ally tube.Everything will vent into the tank.
