i have tons of wheel hop and spin. i cant think of any kind of traction bar that would work on my type 3.
i dont think the Kafer bar would work since the rear suspension is not permanently attached.
anyone have any ideas?

Try welding a roll cage or bar into the car and connecting the down bars from the hoop, towards the back of the car to the frame horns to stop flexing and give.

thanks for the replies. all solid mounts, no rear engine mount (gets in the way of the header  Grin ).
i was trying to stay away from the thousand dollar option of a roll cage and down bars but it looks like its the only way!!
anyone have any opinions on welding the "tongue" to the car to make it solid? then i could use the kafer bar. hmmmmmm

I am a little un-familliar with how your car looks from under neith, but couldnt one come off the inside wall of the wheel well about the area of the end of the frame horn or right about that area on the notch?
the inside of the wheel well seems like a good shear point that could take a lot. drop down some all thread and a big bar under the end of the transmission.maybe make up some 6" long 1x1/8" on each side of the sheetmetal and a nice rod end hanging off that holding the all thread.

look at a regular traction bar, we hang it off of sheetmeta out back. dont see why we couldnt do it any where else.
unfortunatly, it will take some fab skills or equipment.

I am almost picturing some plates toward the front of the car corners of the engine compartment with a cross bar underneight and some points coming down similar to a kafer brace.

Throwing ideas out there. Unfortunatly, the one time i was under Sixto's car, i didnt pay too much attention.

At the show yesterday I got a name of a Hi Po VW shop back east that does traction bars, roll cages, turbo engines, & other stuff. I don't know if they will do type 3 but it's worth giving them a call. Vintage Performance 302-653-4269

yeah because youve never heard of them before  Roll Eyes
