AFTER A LONG BREAK AND A TOUGH ECONOMY, THE CREW AT BRE HAVE SCROUNGED TOGETHER THE PARTS TO GET THE FUELER RUNNING AGAIN.WE'VE BEEN GETTING THE TUNE-UP AND THE CLUTCH DIALED IN. SO FAR SO GOOD. RUNNING A LOAD OF 90% NITRO, IT'S STILL BOLTED TOGETHER AND THAT'S A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

Cool, bring it to Drag Night in July. Fill the SC night air with nitro. Maybe have a go at the track owners Pro Mod.   I,d buy a ticket.

When I shot that car at Roger's house, for the VW Trends story titled "The Beast From The East" I remember driving up to Rogers, and on his driveway in was the biggest friggin' Alligator I had even seen, like out of a Sci-Fi movie big...Just kinda made me a little "nervous" as I was walking around there, IIRC Roger said he had just lost a dog not too far back when I was there, too...
If you still talk with him, tell Roger I said hello...

Thanks for the positive replies. We took it to test and tune this Sunday and and posted a 1.0  60' with a 4.46  1/8th and kept it together with 0 torque taken on  the head bolts after the pass.Got to get back in the 4.20's to be ready to rock.
Rogers got to have surgery on his shoulder since his bike crash last year. That will be a set-back for the summer. Just as well, summer's are just too much to take.

OMG this is GREAT news! I have always said once you guys could harness that power and keep it together, no one would be able to touch you. Prove me right! Drag Night in SC is calling you........

After the match race against Paradise, I defended you guys while everyone else was trashing the fact that the car couldn't stay together. No one realized or put to thought that top fuel cars blow up, its just part of the game. Why would an air-cooled VW be any different? Especially when you are trying something relatively new in the field of racing. Of course parts are going to get hurt during experimentation. Its called "learning experience"

THE LEARNING CURVE ISN'TSOMETHING YOU CAN FIND IN A BOOK SINCE NOBODY HAS EVER THROWN A LOAD OF 90% AT A 4 CYL AND HAD ANY PARTS LEFT.
ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, EVEN THE V8 GUYS THAT RUN THE NHRA CIRCUIT POP MORE THAN THEIR SHARE OF MOTORS.THEY JUST HAVE DEEPER POCKETS.

Great to hear it is back.  Saw you guys run in Georgia against Paradise, then the next year as well when Roger finally said that's it.  That was March of 2007.  I would also love to see you guys run it at Drag Night.

Ow Stogie, that's painful to see. That's what too much fuel in the cylinder looks like. It's hard to imagine what force it takes to do that.

I have a bunch of pics of the carnage.  And of Roger telling us he's through with it.  It was a very sad day.  So Pete and I (we were pitted a few spots down) were overjoyed to see the post that you guys rebuilt and are back!

Glad to hear your working your way back! We were at GA when that motor blew. I remember talking to you about your head bouncing off the steering wheel from the negative G's. WOW. Man, I hope everything goes well for you, and like the rest, It would be the Coolest if y'all could make it to Drag Night!!! Orangeburg is a great track and I'd love to see the look on the track owner's faces when you "lit it up"!!

Awesome!!  You need to bring it west and give the Lauffers another run for it in their back yard!  (Famoso should be able to handle whatever you could throw at it.)  Didn't Bonbright and Haire run nitro?  I used to have a video of that one idling in the pits, but don't remember what became of it.

What happened to Bonbright ? Were they running a water pumper? What kind of nitro load were they throwing at it? I know that a few people spike their gas and alky with a whiff of nitro, but if you're not running more than 80% you don't get the full effect. Another thing you don't get is the destruction.
With any luck (it takes a lot of that) we may get to do a side by side with the Lauffers again. We have the greatest respect for what they have done for the world of 4 cyl. racing. We all need to realize that what we are doing is proving to the V8 folks is that it doesn't take all of that to go fast.

I know that there are guys here that would know more than me about B&H, but what I remember is a regular flat four with dual carb/blower setup just like conventional dual carbs, but with a small blower added on each side.  It cackled pretty good, so I figure they had quite a bit of nitro going into it.  I should try to find that video!  This was back in the late 80's (saw them at Sears Point).

Here you have Sears Point and also the Bonbright nitro dragster with two magnacharges.
In this same forum you have more Sears Point videos 1992 under the Vanagon automatic thread.
