Roll cage...

Well, i'm finally taking the plunge and spending some money to have a chassis shop install an 8.50 legal cage in the race car.
I finally got the turbo motor making some serious HP reliably.
I was laying down consistent 10.50's at only 15psi this season. Damn close to 130mph.
There is easily another 100hp by simply turning the knob.
As it is now, I frequently have to DRIVE the car due to getting out of the goove and making a "move" at any given point going down the track.
Fun to drive, but can be a little hairy at times.
It is clear that the motor is more than the current chassis can handle
Time to step it up and get the car's safety and rigidity where it should be.
Then we can shoot for 9's..
Ever seen a 9's Superbeetle?

Tom,
Its been really fun watching you and the killa bee progress over the past 10 years. I stumbled on to the clf in 1999 and virtually met you online. In spring of 2000 I met you, aaron and rich at beaver springs when I took a clf group shot and wrote a small article for the site. I remember calling your first shot at turbo engines "project homebrew" after the the pioneering computer geeks of the late 60's and early 70's, who completely built their own home computer in the garage out of salvaged parts from other devices and a few new "microchips".
To see you go from the "sweep the floor" engine with a junkyard turbo set up to a 9 second Super Beetle set on kill has been a lot of fun! You're a good guy and deserve the rewards of all your efforts!
Best of Luck to you in 2012!

yeah, it has come a long way. This photo was back in 1983 when I did my first re-build and installed a "3/4" cam and holley bug spray...
