Good job Geoff!

Thanks for the congrats Mark!

You were hooking Geoff!

I think it's just an optical illusion! It could just be KYBs that have been on the rear since 94, or the stock torsions that have been in there since 74.  Grin

With the passing of Lenny Olasky in January we have aquired quite the parts collection.  We are having people over to share in Lenny Olaskys parts collection.  It's what we would have wanted!

If interested contact me here for details.  We were looking to this early this Sunday!!

On a side note, Daryl Reynolds made a solo pass in Lenny Olasky's turbo beetle at our June 19 NCVWDRA
race. Lenny was a member and supporter of NCVWDRA. Lenny built this bug to run with us this season but
he passed away in January. Lenny was a staple in the VW community in this region and Daryl and the NCVWDRA
chose to honor his memory with a solo pass in his car with his good friend at the wheel. Rest in peace Lenny.

Heads up to all racers comming fom the East. About two miles East of the track, Route 165 is closed for a bridge replacement between the town of Greenford, and Route 62. A common route to get to the track was to travel on Route 14 East, to Route 46 East, to Route 165 East. You can no longer do this. I would suggest continuing on Route 14 East into Salem, then turn right heading North on Route 9, also known as North Lincoln Avenue. Route 9 goes into Route 62, and when you come upon the traffic light at Route 165, simple turn left, and the track will be on your left. Google Map Salem Ohio if you need to look at the routes on a map. See you Saturday.

Race #2 of the North Coast VW Drag Racing Association at Quaker City Raceway is now in the books.
We had 16 cars enter with 15 making the first round call. The racing was as hot as the weather! We had
several racers have mechanical issues (myself included) but most of the racers were on their game Saturday.
After 5 rounds of racing it was Larry Herold in his blue buggy winning the semi finalist cash. Geoff Keeton and his unstoppable Super Beetle advanced from his usual semi finalist position to take the Runner Up honors. That leaves Gary Seigneur in the Winner's Circle again!!! Gary has won the last 3 VW races at Quaker City dating back to last
fall and also won his class at last years Pittsburgh Classic! Congratulations Gary!! You are now officially wearing
at huge target on your back. Thanks to everyone who came out to race, spectate or just hang out. It was definately
a blast!!
Special thanks to our series sponsors!!!

The next race for the NCVWDRA at Quaker City Raceway is this Saturday
August 7. Several racers have been busy correcting issues from our 7/24 race.
I have been sorting out clutch problems, Larry Herold has rebuilt his tran after
taking out 1st gear, Troy McNair is replacing 2nd gear again and Eric Hengstenberger
is swapping manifolds. I'll be ready as will all the others to run QCR Saturday!
This will be our 3rd race of the season and the weather looks perfect for some good
hook and some low ET's!
Come to Quaker City Raceway in Salem, Ohio on 8/7/10 to race with some of the
best VW Drag Racers in the Midwest! Gates open at 10:30AM big car time trials
start at noon. Eliminations start at 4-5PM.
We had 16 cars at the 7/24 race. Let's see if we can get 20 this time!!
ROLL CALL!!!!

See you at the track!!!

The weatherman says Saturday will be mostly sunny and 77 degrees with low humidity for the third
NCVWDRA race at Quaker City Raceway in Salem, Ohio!!! Excellent drag racing weather and a bit of a change from the HOT and STICKY weather at our first two events. Come on out to QCR this Saturday August 7!!! Gates open at 10:30AM with big car time trials at Noon.
See you at the track!!!

I just got a phone call from Dougie...
I guess he just laid down a serious pass with the new combo.
I think he's got the low ET in the bag.
See everyone tomorrow...

BTW. The trophey is a sweet old nostalgic one that's made of real wood and marble....

Friday night I went to QCR to make a couple test passes before the NCVWDRA race
on Saturday. Car sounded good. Wayne Goddard form Canada helped me stage in
the groove and after shaking the tires in 1st gear it hauled ass to a 10.35 ET. Second
pass I spun the tires thru 1st gear and ran a 10.41ET. The 10.35 had a 1.40 60ft and
the 10.41 had a 1.47 60ft. Both passes were 104.65 mph 1/8 mile and 122.4 mph
1/4 mile. I felt ready for Satuday!
Saturday in my first time trail I broke a rocker and coasted to a 13.80 something.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it back together this season. I do have my back up
motor and I can still run the rest of the season with NCVWDRA and S/P at Pittsburgh.

Doug laid down a 10.35 Friday night.
Saturday, he broke a rocker in half on the first time trial. The rockers are old Autocraft ones that have seen many years of abuse.

Here is a writeup of the racing action:

Well this was Race 3 of this year. The weather man said a high of 80 and low humidity.
The stage was set...
Doug Dowd recently got his car all working right and TNT Friday night for some shake down passes.
He laid down a 10.35s. That was the fastest pass he has ever made in the car.

We had 17 cars show up to race. All those who broke at the last race were fixed up and ready to go at again.
Thanks to all the sponsors for making it all happen.

We did have our share of breakage.
Doug broke a rocker clean in half on his first time trial.
Eric broke his brand new intake manafolds somehow.
Dave and Troy both stripped 2nd gears.
We still had 14 cars heading into first round.

The racing action was HOT for sure.
Geno made his first pass down the dragstrip in 20yrs (if I heard correctly). Good Job Geno...
Daryl Reynolds turbo sedan was laying down some mid 11's passes and running very well. He's a serious USE contender.

I was paired up with Gary (winner of the last 2 races) in the first round.
I figured we might as well get this over with.
I was able to take the win with my 11.97 on my 11.95 dial. The car was set on Kill and I just kept going at it.
3rd round I got the by with a .501 r/t in the previous round. This advanced me to the final.
Daryl did well in the semi when he took out John (trike guy who always wins running 17s dial).
Daryl blew by him so fast, John couldn't read the stripe and Daryl went to the final with me.
The final Daryl had to hot lap his car it it ran off the pace. I got the easy win (and didn't redlight all day).
So, John got 3rd.
Daryl got 2nd and I got the WIN....
Yes, finally I got a W this season. I was jumping up and down. I was so happy.

As a "passing of the torch' Gary handed me the winning trophey personally.

Thanks to Jack Spencer for the awsome oldschool trophey..
I will display it with honor..

Great to hear about your new p.b. Doug-- sorry about the rocker.  That pretty much sums-up drag racing--  elation and agony all in the same day.  I hope you can get everything together in time for the next race.

Had a great time on Saturday, first time all year I had my junk together and working halfway decent. I got zero action photos though. Here's our winners, Mr. Doug Dowd presenting...

John Ream semi-finalist:

Daryl Reynolds runner up:

Tom Simpson winner:

Gary presenting Trophy to Tom:

Mark Gorby and Myself went out first round, so we staged our own primer car shootout in the Test n Tune lane. It was a great time. Aside from red-lighting 2 out of 3 times, I managed a 1.66 60', and ran out a 12.69 @ 101mph. Mark usually runs 1/8th mile so with only a handful of 1/4 mile passes he managed a 13.34 @ 96mph. I know he's got a 12.90 in it... Hope somebody got some action shots....

I did find some pics from the last race, not sure who took them, but they are nice...

Sweet!  Thank you Erika!    My 13.34 run against Rich Sedoris  is on there, and that was a test and tune run.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XLK_1BTJ3Y&NR=1  Thanks again.  Congrats to Tom!      Thank you Doug Dowd , Rich Sedoris.
1/4 mile was a new experience for me. I got knocked out early but Rich and I made the best of the test and tune opportunity.   Pretty excited about my 13.34 1/4  mile pass out of a relatively mild street motor that I used to drive to work.  (76X94 2109)  all steel 67.  1.71 60 ft.  on the run to.  8.34 1/8   Cars best with this set-up, and I drove it back on the trailer!

I forgot to mention that Steven Pocaro and FASRNU Racing has put up $100 for
a perfect reaction time during eliminations. If nobody cuts a perfect light at this
last race of the year, the cash will be paid out to the closest to perfect during eliminations. Scott Pocaro has put up $100 for the low ET of eliminations for the
quickest pass of the year. Scott has also donated a large trophy to the winner of
the Low ET and this ET will stand as the NCVWDRA record for 2010!! Currently
the lowest ET of 2010 eliminations is held by Daryl Reynolds with a 11.71 pass
in his turbo 64 vert. That number will surely be lowered at this race as the racers
will be pulling out all the stops to earn bragging rights for the winter. Our winner will
also receive a trophy hand crafted by our own Jack Spencer!
We have commitments from some heavy hitters from southern Ohio and New Jersey
planning to race this two day, two race, two track weekend! Spectators from as far away as Atlanta, GA are coming as well!! Don't miss it!!
See you at the track!!!

Good Luck to everyone!
Just a heads up, if any of you are planning to come over after the race to PRP, just be aware that they said they would be racing until Midnight. You are still more then welcome to come on over and campout though, just don't know where spots will be available to park. Otherwise, gates open at 8am on Sunday and racing starts at 11am, we will see you all in a couple of weeks!

Drag racing is a summer sport..  Every one of the normal racers that come out to Quake City knows the trouble I've had with my car but I still keep coming and working on it and it is getting better..  A Oct race would be nice but it will have it's own problems..
