I just went on the NHRA sport compact site and air cooled cars are not listed as accepted body styles anymore.  Does anyone know if we are no longer welcome to come play?

I looked at the website, as well as last years rulebook. Their list is from dec of 2003. A bug isn't listed, BUT I still raced my 69 bug last year in Quick 16. Proof is even on their site, under wallpaper. Theres my bug, with Q16 on the windshield, wheels up.

I've talked to Pete Cvengros with Northeast NHRA Sport Compact Tech and air cooleds can run Q16 and brackets.  I'm planning on Richmond, VA on April 21-22.  Is anyone on the East Coast planning on running this event?  THis is only Richmonds 2nd annual event.

Jim,

Are you referring to Sport Compact? If so page 135 of the 2007 NHRA Sport Compact Rulebook under Volkswagen has Karman Ghia and Type I listed, as acceptable for ET, Quick 16, Sport RWD, All Motor, and Modified.

Subject: Rules for Sport Compact

Hello, my name is Jim Gillum.  I've been bracket racing my 1973 Karmann Ghia for 25 years.  In the rules for illegible bodies there is no mention of air-cooled Bugs or Karmann Ghias or other types of older VW's.  Is my KG acceptable?  Also I have rear brakes only (car turns 12.5's in the 1/4).  In rules for ET it states caliber's for brakes, I use drums.  Is that OK.  Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Happy motoring, Jim

No worries here - I just posted the page out of the rulebook, to clarify what Jim said.

Dammit. Looking at the list, I can't race my bug in NHRA PFWD. That sucks.
