The next event for the ECPRA is Drag Night and I just wanted to post a couple of reminders.

We will be offering both Pro Stock and Pro Mod classes at this event.  Pro Stock will be $125 to enter and Pro Mod will be $50.  If you are not currently a member of the ECPRA and you wish to accumulate points and/or get credit for any record setting passes, you must pay the $100.00 membership dues prior to the first round of qualifying.  Otherwise, you may opt to use drag night as your one “free” race if you have not yet competed with us this year.  However, if you are not a member and you win the race or are runner up, or if we have a full field and pay back to the semis, the membership dues will be held out of any winnings you receive.

Anyone wishing to Pre-Register for Drag Night may send your entry fee and/or membership dues to me, Tiffany Skaggs, at 770 Rocky Step Road, Winfield, WV 25213.

Thanks and hope to see a bunch of you there!  Scott puts on an awesome event and it just might be the most fun you have all summer! Grin

Tiffany, I have a couple of questions concerning the Pro Stock rules. Who should I contact concerning them? Just need to clarify some things before I make the long haul out there. Looking forward to meeting you and Warren and the rest of the Pro Stock teams.

Well, As of now, The ECPRA rules committee are saying my car is not allowed to compete. I use a laptop computer for data logging my runs. My ecu does not have on board memory so I need a laptop for recording purposes only. It's frustrating because the laptop isn't accessable by myself, only my crew guy. I couldn't get to it if I had too. I can not see how my laptop functions any different than an Innovate data recorder but I do not make the rules. Here is the Electronic devices rules of the ECPRA. This is a TOTAL contradiction with allowing efi into the class. The first 4 sentences banns efi? Since only one car has ever ran EFI in Pro Stock and now doesn't compete, I think the ECPRA hasn't had to re-think their rules about efi. Here is the rules:

No electrical, or air operated, devices such as delay boxes, throttle stops, or timers may be used. No device that functions to operate the vehicle may be used. One playback tachometer is acceptable. No vehicles may be equipped with computers that in any way affect the operation of the vehicle. A computer is defined as any device (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc.) that activates any function of, or in any way affects the operation of, the vehicle based on measurement, sensing, processing, etc. of any data related to the performance of the vehicle. Display or transmission of any data gathered or processed to the driver or any remote location, prohibited Data recorders may be used to record functions of a vehicle so long as they do not activate any function on the vehicle. Data recorder may not be activated by the throttle, clutch, brake, mechanisms, etc., nor by the Christmas Tree, radio transmitters, sensing of wheel speed, inertia, laser device, or transmission of track position. Must be activated by separate switch. Fifth-wheel sensing devices prohibited on all vehicles (includes wheelie-bar wheels). All lines sensing flow, pressure, etc. of fuel or oil must be metallic or steel braided. Transmission or display of data gathered or processed by data recorder to the driver or any remote location prohibited. Data may be reviewed (printout, replay, etc.) only after the run.
I feel bad for Scott, I told him I was coming and CB has commited to it bcoming a sponsor of the event.

Seems to me, This paragraph allows my laptop to be used as a data recorder, does it not? This is straight from the ecpra rules.

Gene Collier had a meeting with Warren Skaggs. I guess Warren is part of the rules committee. Gene called me this morning and told me their decision. He is going to look into it further and call me back but as it stands now, I am not allowed to race in the class.

If it makes any difference I say LET HIM RACE!!! Why not? If his laptop is only used as a data logging system and he can't access it then I dont see the problem.

The SEVWA Turbosmart Pro Outlaw Class has no problem with you running in this class if you choose to do so.
  $100 Pre-registration $150 Day of Show
You don't have to be a member to run in this class, but you will not be able to collect Contingency prizes unless you are a member. It is only $25 to join SEVWA.

The rules committee is the entire organization, every member. If I were you I would try and talk to Warren directly and see what the discussion was. Technically by the letter of the rules you can’t run efi. Since with efi even the simplest base delta N tunes still change the injection based on tps sensor and rpm sensor input. However, I think the rule is intended to exclude things that alter the performance of the vehicle, excluding engine sensors controlling the engine.  Though “vehicle” does cover the whole… well vehicle, I don’t think engine was meant to be included except where a non engine vehicle sensor was used to control a parameter of the engine. I.e no pulling timing based on wheel speed sensors, such as in traction control. I don’t know what the conversations were or what is actually in your car, but it seems to me that as long as you are NOT using your computer to analyze and change things as you go down the track it shouldn’t matter. Of course looking from the out side in it is hard to know WHAT EXACTLY you are having the lap top in the car do. But that can be said about any number of “boxes” and sensors people are running these days, who knows what they are actually “doing” or not doing. We just have to trust each other to a point as long as the combination of sensors and boxes doesn’t point to an obvious path of input-output control of something that isn’t totally engine based. I don’t know if any of that will make sense. I hope this all gets worked out  in time for you to come play. I can’t wait to see how slow that car runs out here where Horsepower doesn’t grow on trees…  Kiss

I'm sorry for getting everything all stirred up. I was very let down when Gene said the rules excluded my car. Yes, Todd Howard ran EFI and I have been told he had a laptop in the car. I just want to come and race against some Pro Stock cars because these Pro Mod turbo cars are beating me up pretty bad. On top of this, I need to see how the car runs where air doesn't grow on trees Grin Gene said he would call me in the morning. His feelings were that my car can race. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I hope this all gets worked out FAST. After Scott's post I thought it was done, sounds more like maybe now. We will all be waiting to see how this turns out.

My efi is very simple, 02 sensor, TPS sensor, head temp sensor and fuel pressure sensor, VR sensor for crank position and cam sensor for cam position, thats it. I have no wheel speed sensors so traction control is out of the question. I would be happy to show anyone my car, letting them look at my laptop and the software. This is the same ecu we sell at CB, no funny business. I don't run EFI because I think it makes more power than carbs, no one has ever proven this. I use it because our company sells it and I want to support our product line.

Personally, I think we need to pay more attention to the rules/car/ etc in the future and make some of the rules more clear. Like with transmissions, efi, etc. I've heard some racers might even try running some sort of clutchless trans in the near future. Just my 2 cents.Grin

Never saw a Lenco hooked up to a vw, but if it can be somehow be done and work, do it. Last time I heard the prices on Lenco sections they were like $1,000  each.
