Check out my new 2332 race motor. This "was" the supercharged motor I had previously. I simply took off the supercharger and installd a turbo system. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JfeDny6zm4T3/4 turbo 600cfm Holley Scat crank, carillo rods Autocraft cyls with Mahle pistons (for now). CB S/E heads with VW-650 springs FK-89 cam (for now), 8.5/1 compression Lots of fluff and buff work to the heads and case internal. She doens't like to idle below 1500rpm and the throttle is a little lazy when you first crack it. I'm sure it due to the cam and rather large intake I built for it. The plan is to limit to 16psi until I have the money for better pistons. I figure it will be way faster than my current 2276 N/A motor.

i've been told that cam is a go fast cam for turbo motor's, i just didnt have the stones to try it in my car. i look forward to seeing it's #'s. good luck tom

I think it's a Brothers VW header. It's a common supplier. Lots of places sell the same header. I found it on Thesamba.com. Nice thick flanges and the tubing is thicker walled to handle the weight up high. Very nice piece that fits well. It's a 1 5/8" diameter.

That is almost the same set up I have made 378hp and 324ft lbs of torqe @20lbs 6300rpm's

I'm curious if your setup was similar. What jetting did you end up with? Currently, I have 71pri/76sec, with a 10" P/V. Seems to run well on the stand. I know that means nothing about how it runs under load. Any special boost reference? Should I even bother?

Tom,if the carb isn't boost referenced I would recommend you take the power valve out and up the jets 6-8 sizes.

I just bought the car about a month ago I will pull the jets to see what they are I no it is not boost referenced.It will be a couple weeks before I can check the Jets I am working in Kansas.The only difference I see in your combo is the turbo I have a t4 and my carb is a 650

Aaron, I tried to run it that way but it loads up real bad under light load. Can't even cruise around the pits.
Much smoother if I use the powervalve and run the primaries at 71's.

LOL.... That one took me a minute...;-)
Well, I got home from work and ate dinner real fast. I called my Son-in-law to help me lift the motors so I can swap them out. We got the new motor installed and running before 9pm and there was still enough light to see by.... I took it down the road just to feel what she has.. Holy shiznuts.... I rolled into the throttle about 4,000 and she pulled just OK up to about 5,5000. Fealt like my old 2276 N/A motor I just pulled out...
Then... everything changed all the sudden... Warp drive kicked in and we were grabbing gears. when I shifted to 3rd, it broke loose and wagged the tail aorund some so I lifted. It definatly has picked up a whole lot of HP. Didn't miss a lick and sounds healthy.
I have no idea what boost is as I havn't installed the gage yet. I know it set low thou. I also need to hook up my O2 gage and have my Son-in-law ride in the car with me and watch gages.
Look out 10's here I come.... I'm stoked... Ready for Larry's off road race...

OK I got the boost gauge installed and the O2 sensor.
Boost is only 10psi and it runs that good. I raised it to 12psi and ran it down the road again.
It really is pulling hard. I only stayed in it for a few seconds. The A/F was reading 12.5. I'm gonna up the secondaries a size or 2. for now I'll leave it at 12psi until I get jetting sorted out. I know it's gonna run a serious # at 12psi. Can't even imagine what 20psi is gonna feel like.

Geez Aaron, who would have thought you knew anything about turbo jetting. Holy crap, that was almost spot on to my jetting. I guess you do know a thing or two about how they work.

Tom, I think your getting close to the point where i was. With that kind of set-up and boost they're just not as street friendly as they were with the milder cam, heads, and compression. But when it tries to pull your ears off in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th I guarentee you wont care about it being street friendly anymore. It will downright scare the crap out of your passenger. Have fun.

Hello guys i am building a 2.4 type 4 t3/4 turbo 1.0 bar press for a friend. were using a holley 1850 vac sec. do you guys have any guesses were i should start with the jetting and sec diafragm before it hits the dyno. i still have to build an complete engine in two weeks and then race it in germany so there is not much time to sort things out. any good advice is very welcome

Sorry, I'm not that up on Holley carbs so I can't help you..
I did find out why my motor is running so poorly. Over the last few days, it has been worse and worse about loading up. I tried all kinds of things and finally, I took a look at the floats themselves. One float was completly full of gas. It had a small pin hole in it... I soldered it up and tested it and we're back to square one with jetting.
I did some reading in the Holley book and discovered why it's a bad idea to run a powervalve in a drawthru application. So, I have removed it and gone up lots in jetting. We'll see where it lands tomorrow...

Tom sent me a text from the track tonight and he is working the bugs out. A few small adjustments and the "Killa Bee" is a solid mid 10 ride. I'm sure Tom will post up when he gets home from Dragway 42 if he didn't get tossed for running too fast!

Doug is right. I got the carb sorted out and loaded it up and headed out for a little TNT action tonight. I left the boost at 12psi until I get the jetting close.
First pass, it was aparent that she was too lean. It nosed over at the top of each gear. I gave up the pass and she still ran a 7.01 in the 1/8th. I upped the 2ndaries from 76's to 80's Next pass it ran 11.35 spinning the tires in 1st and 2nd gear. I removed the wheelie bars and lowered tire pressure. Also changed to 82 jets. Ran a 10.98 @ 119.5mph. I upped the jetting to 84's and tried again. This time it went 10.91 @ 119.5mph. I was soooo happy. Dusting V8's left and right.
It still falling flat at round 7,400rpm so it's limiting the mph in top gear. I lowerd the shift points for all other gears and she really moves out nice. I can't believe it's only 12psi. I just need to build a taller gearbox and get my 8" slicks mounted up.
The good news is that during launch, the motor is not making that much power, so My gearbox should live ok. The tires are definatly the limiter right now. 3 season old 6" M+H's are not doing it any more. Still got some 1,48 sixty foot times.
The plan is to up the 2ndaries one more time to see if it opens the top end up any more. Then I will try sweezing more boost out of it.
The FK-89 is really too big for this application. The large plenum intake makes it hard to idle and it likes to load up easily. I have to keep the idle around 2,000rpm to keep it from loading up. Otherwise, it's like a lightswitch at 5,000rpm. I have a hard time doing a burnout as I have to get the motor above 5,K before letting the clutch out or it will bog the motor in the water. Kind of crazy, but it's way cool and draws all kinds of attention. The V8 boys will just come by and look and walk away. LOL...

OK, here is the latest... I ran the car today at Larry's offroad. I did very well with it. I got 3rd in superpro. It ran consistent 6.80's all day. The car just flat goes. I didn't mess with too much either. 60' were 1.41 to 1.46 all day. I broke 100mph in the 1/8th. The car seems to work very well for some reason. The tire slip is just right to save my gearbox, but still get good short times. I'm afraid to change anything in the setup.
One thing, I had a real hard time getting it started in the cold weather. I had to shoot it with ether to get it to fire first time. That FK-89 cam sucks for cold mornings and large intakes.
I have one question for the Holley experts.
One of the issues I found was that the secondary float bowl was over flowing. I changed the float and inlet valves with quality parts and set them up static. However, when I fire the motor the secondary overflows after a minute or so of running. The motor floods and dies. Then I"m all day trying to re-start.
The holley book says to setup the secondary butter flys 1/4 turn open from all the way closed. The carb as it came to me was not set correctly, so I did that. The problem has reduced greatly, but it has not gone away completly. I still have to revv the motor hard every so often to keep the fuel from flooding out the motor.l
Now the question: Would it be a good idea to setup the secondaries more than 1/4 turn open? this way it will draw fuel from both bowls at idle and keep it from over filling? I can compensate by lowering the primaries. The motor has a fast idle anyways (2000rpm), so it may help to keep the primaries "on the mixture screws". If that makes sense.
for jetting I have ended up with 71 primaries, no P/V, and 86 secondaries. Going from 82 to 84 to 86 has not changed ET or mph, So I'm leaving it at 86s. 71 on the primaries seems to work nice for midrange. and burnouts.

Congratulations Tom! That car and engine has come a LONG way since the one and only time we met at Beaver Springs many moons ago. From your project, I dubbed "Homebrew" that I wrote about in the Cal-Look.com event coverage for the event to what you have now is quite a transformation.
