I've had people questioning whether or not we will have a fourth race this season so I'm posting to give everyone an update.  The reason this has happened is because the promoter of Punchbuggy has some very sick family members overseas and at first decided to pull out this year but changed his mind after alot of people contacted him to help out with the event. A few weeks ago I sent every MADRA points member an email (atleast to the ones I had an email for).  We have a few options of what we can do for our fourth race.

Keith and Kathy of K&L Motorsports have graciously offered for us to come to the Pittsburgh race and make that our last race of the season.  I am also waiting for the promoter of the Punchbuggy to get back with me because he's been in contact with me about a possible early August date. I've also got one more iron in the fire for a possible more centralized race in early August.  SO, I'm gonna need a few more weeks to get this finalized.  I've promised a few promoters a few more weeks for them to work on this.

Having said that, here's my two cents. With K&L you are guaranteed to receive your payouts in each class.  I've had some complaints about the Pittsburgh race being a week after the BugOut and I understand.  This is the only reason why I have not added this race yet.  Remember folks, I've got to make a decision for the group as a whole.  I can't cater to people and I won't. I started this points series because alot of racers were saying how much we need a local points series.  I will make this clear and repeat it, "I do not make a dime off this points series!".  I will make a decision in a few weeks of where our 4th race will be. In the meantime, your input would help.  If you don't want to post on here then email me and I will call you.

Thanks,
Jerry

A few things to make note of,

1 - After much conversing about this subject the MADRA has decided not to include the Pittsburgh race as part of our points series.  There was absolutely no other reason other than distance and travel. The majority of the racers have spoken. I still urge everyone to attend the Pittsburgh event. It is a great facility and is promoted by honest people who care about this VW sport of Drag racing.

2 - Atco Punchbuggy is ON! The promoter just called and said the new date for Punchbuggy is August 21, 2011.  The MADRA will make this part of our points series.  It will be added to our schedule. The promoter wanted me to let everyone know that there will also be a test and tune that day but we are assured to have atleast 3 possibly 5 time runs. If you have any questions about the event contact the promoter. You can find contact info. on www.punchbuggyvwshow.com . The date on the website has not been changed yet but will be soon.

3 - Stay Tuned....because the double points race could possibly be moved to another one of our races rather than have it on the last race at the BugOut. You WILL be notified before the first race of the season about this.

4 - ALSO, I am adding MIR's Import Revolution on August 6-7, 2011 as a "tentative" race at this time. This race still depends on cummunication from MIR.  Jason Miller (Owner and Director of MIR) has expressed that he definately wants the VW's at this race.  We still need to discuss details.  I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,
Jerry Lewis

Just a couple of updates;

The Maple Grove, PA VW June Jam race on June 12, 2011 will be our Double Points race for 2011.  Please come out and show your support and grab them double points!!!!

The MIR Budds Creek, MD race (www.importrevo.com) will NOT be a points race this year.  It is listed on our schedule as an INVITATIONAL ONLY race.  This race will also be a 1/4 mile race with many classes to choose from.

Thanks,
Jerry

OK folks we're getting close to our first points race at BugOut 69 on May 29, 2011! I hope everyone has been busy getting there cars ready for some Drag Racing!!

I'll be there as early as I can to get folks signed up for the points.  Remember, you have to be signed up before the race to accrue any points.  So make it a point to come an see me early to get registered.

Remember to thank all of our sponsors when you get a chance.  If you can just drop them an email to say thanks for helping out!

Go to our website and refresh yourself on the rules.  REMEMBER** - Your car has to meet tech inspection rules for whatever track we race at.  That also means if your ET or MPH require you to have a license make sure you have it.  I have no control over that whatsoever.

Feel free to call me with any questions.

Thanks,

Jerry

I think I will do the points races next year, I can only make 1, maybe 2 races this year.  According to the points rules on the site, last year if I joined I would have had 110 points in pro at the end of the season, is that competitive enough to be worth joining?

If you had 110 points in Pro last year you would have won the class.  Frank Carbaugh won with 80 total points last year.  Chris Schaeffer was in the lead but Frank went a few more rounds at the double points race at the BugOut and won! One thing to consider is Maple Grove this year is the double points race. It's a good chance to stretch some points out.  Also, remember it's a best 3 out of 4 races points series, so one race does'nt even count!

OK, thanks for the info.  I won fall bugout, thats why I got so many points.  I just picked a good time to be lucky is all.  Maybe I'll join this year since I am going to the Grove.

Payouts have been Updated! We are very proud to announce $2,400 in payouts for the series plus product and gift certificates!

Ok Peeps here's an update of the points accrual after Atco.  I would like to personally thank all of the sponsors who have helped make this series a success.  There's no way possible that this could have worked without the racer's and sponsors input.

It looks like Bruce Ridgeway has a commanding lead in Super Pro BUT anything can happen.  Last year Bruce was not on the radar but went rounds and gathered some double points (BugOut this year is NOT a double points race) and won the series.  If Bruce goes out early then Woody Page or Austin Johnson III could creep right in there. It's gonna be exciting!

In Pro, Nelson Rodriguez Jr. and Eric Hellmuth are battling it out for the #1 spot. Rodriguez Jr. has a slight lead but remember this is a best 3 out of 4 so if you look at the points as of Atco then Eric and Nelson are tied going into BugOut! Again though, you never know..if Nelson Jr. and Eric go out first round then things could get very interesting.  There's usually a good amount of cars at BugOut so a driver can get some rounds in!

Daniel Wadel has Sportsman wrapped up! He is definately our Sportsman champ!  Congrats to Daniel on his 2011 MADRA Sportsman Championship win!

Good Luck to all the Racers at the final points race of the year. I hope the winners and runner ups enjoy the trophies. I will not be attending the final race. I have been wanting to make the races all year but being in stage 5 kidney failure has made it hard. I have been doing kidney dialysis everyday for 9 hours a night. I am on the kidney tranplant list so hopefully I will be able to see some next year.

Well our 2011 MADRA Points Series is in the books.  Michelle and I had alot of fun doing the series and want to thank everyone involved for their support! Just in case there is anyone out there who does'nt know yet Michelle and I have decided to step down and concentrate on racing next year.  Keith Bumgarner (K&L Motorsports and SEVWA) and Kathy Jacobs will be taking over the series for next season.  I feel very good about this decision and I want everyone to know that I thought long and hard about it before the decision was made.  If there is anyone who has doubts about the series just look at K&L's track record.  They have been managing a points series and promoting events for over ten years now and have done a wonderful job! I will still also be there in a "behind the scenes" fashion racing the new "Pro Outlaw" class that Keith will implement for the MADRA next season! Thanks to everyone again and I will see you at the races!

On to the points! I'm proud to announce our 2011 MADRA Class Champions!

In Super Pro Bruce Ridgeway has done it again! Taking back to back Championships with the MADRA! Woody Page struggled this year with alot of car issues but still managed to edge out Austin Johnson III by a mere 10 points!
Congrats to you both! You've earned it!

In Pro Class we ended with a tie. Nelson Rodriguez Jr. and Eric Hellmuth ended the season with the same amount of points! Our rules state that they must race a one race run off but unfortunately the track had already closed and we could not do the run off. The two gentlemen agreed to split the purse and the championship for now and will meet up next season a an undetermined location as of yet and do the run off to see who in fact is the champ! My hat's off to both Eric and Nelson for their agreement. A true class act for both parties!

Sportsman saw Daniel Wadel earn the championship having it wrapped up at Maple Grove! Daniel piloted the Abrams Racing Street Sedan this season and did a fantastic job! Runner Up saw Nelson Rodriguez Sr. edge out Virgil Prehn for trophy and the money!!!

Awesome job again guys! It was fun!
