also... the Washington Post contacted me as well and informed me that in Fridays Paper in the weekend section they are running an article and some photos. I submitted over 12 photos to the paper. Some of you might be in PRINT tomorrow Smiley Make sure you pick up a paper just in case. Hell pick up a few for me too since i don't reside in that area anymore.

They are advertising the show on a local DC rock station,I heard it on the radio at work today. I don't recall ever hearing an ad spot for the Bug Out on the radio before.

Tay and I just got back from the Burger King which is close to the track and there were about 150 cars there. It was pretty cool with a mixture of cars. There was some cool vw's, street rides, full blown race cars, choppers, harleys etc. All the local papers were there taking pictures and stuff. It was cool to hang out for change. Grin

OK Peeps here goes,

What a busy day!

MADRA Points Series Winners

Super Pro - Winner Bruce Ridgeway / Runner Up Jonathan Abrams

(Coming into this race Bruce and Jonathan were not even on the radar.  The leaders were Pete Peek and Wody Page.  With Austin Johnson III only 5 points behind.  Well, Peek and Austin go out first round, Woody goes on another round and Bruce and Jonathan go all the way to the finals.  With this race being a double points race, Bruce and Jonathan win the points also! Unbelievable!!)

Pro Points Winner - Frank Carbough (Old Skool Bug) / Runner Up Chris Schaeffer

(Coming into this race Chris had a comfortable lead.  Chris goes out first round and Frank goes another couple of rounds and wins the points!)

Sportsman Points Winner - Nelson Rodriguez / Sportsman Runner Up - Virgil Prehn

(Virgil and Nelson battled each other all season.  Nelson just happened to go on to win this event and take the points also!)

BIG congrats to all the winners.  Thanks to all who helped make this possible!

Not the case. There have been MANY VW races at better venues with little support. Its really sad from the racing aspect because that track is just garbage. Its NEVER been spectator friendly. The pits are DANGEROUS! Yes, I raced there for MANY years and won 4 bug-outs and runner-up'd a few too. But I refuse to race there now because its my personal protest against it.

Congrats to all the winners!! I've raced with Bruce a lot and he's always a tough competitor. Jerry (and all the others) that have worked to make the MADRA happen deserve  a big THANK YOU!! I know the economy has hurt the car count but hopefully things will get better. I was laid of for just over a year and haven't been able to travel as much as I wanted. I should have gone somewhere this weekend because my washer and dryer crapped out and that cost me another $700 to replace!!

I agree with Gene as he said earlier, the track is garbage, the only reason Tay and I go is because its 15 minutes away and all our hometown vws friends are there. We also test and tune a little. The track management is awful. We had low E.T with check and plaque in hand sipping on some corona's til we were told we needed to give it back because we did not make an elimination pass. We choose not to run because the track was sucky and the last pass we made was crazy, even the track guy/starter who stands between the lanes told me he was SORRY they didn't take care of the track with oil downs and such. Its just a shame.Angry

Sorry? Their idea of an oil down cleanup is to send some cars down the track, the oil will go onto the tires and go away.Same old same old place. And to have to give the check back, total crap. I wonder who complained and whined about that, and got their way.

I didn't have too much trouble, I enjoyed the event.  I'm not saying bad things don't happen there, I just didn't see it yesterday.  (winning helps I guess)  The only thing I didn't like was they weren't much help backing me into the water.  That's why in the above picture of my red super I am spinning the tires in the water, I didn't know were I was.  I figured it out on my own after that first time trial, backing up you can feel the dip down.  My 60 foots were the best I have ever had in the past 2 years.  I am fully convinced that that track is short though.  My e.t.s are usually dead on from track to track, and yesterday I ran consistantly .1 faster than usual, and my speed was lower than normal too.  I don't know, I'm not an expert, thats just my opinion.

And my name is Eric Hellmuth.

Thanks Eric and nice job yesterday.
However if you want to see my cars again you'll have to see them somewhere other than Manassas. I'm done with Bug Out unless they change facilities.
I wont get into a long Manassas bash. Everyone who has raced there knows the issues, and will experience new ones if they continue to go.
I,ve had enough, should have gone to Larry's.

Congrats again on your finish.

First of all....Manassas is a junk track in general.  The surface sucks

Before this goes ANY farther....LOW ET of an event apprentely depends on promotor. Les feels like you need to make a time shot or "qualifier" and capture LOW ET then run  first round ALSO to take home the money/check. I have HEARD of people bitching/complaining in the PAST...but do not think this was the case this year at all.  Seems like a promotor miscommunication which i think 1969dragbug was thinking of....based on PAST happenings.

What needs to happen in the future is some clear rules.  If you want low et...it either happens ANYTIME during the day...or you must run first round. Nowhere in print is it typed out.  Just  like the stupid buy back rule?  I have never heard of anything until second round when first round losers were in the lanes.  Whats going on??  Can we PLEASE have some communication from the organizers/promoters??

I am not bashing anyone and either is 1969dragbug.  We just have NO understanding of how stuff is run at Bug Out.  Seems like a make it up as they go along kind  of thing and thats not fair to ANYONE!!  As a group (those who want to run there for any reason) we need some clean cut rules.  So instead of arguing, lets get it straight!  Please

Gary, the wheels are Centerlines, similiar in appearance to the Billet Specialties wheel but not quite as pricey. Little heavier also. I,ve had them on for a couple of races now.
I gotta say congrats again to Greg on the win at Larry's. Really happy for you guys. Wish I had been there to see it.
