Well, I've finally had some time to sit down, dowload the pics off my camera, and get them posted.  So here's a couple for ya:

Here's what I'm starting with:

This car was given to me by my pops when I was 14.  We spent 2 1/2 years making it driveable and I drove it in high school and a little after.  It had been sitting since 1996 when I picked it from my mom's this spring...

I didn't do much with it for six months, but Thanksgiving Weekend, it got reduced to this:
and this

As with all projects, it never ends up like it starts, even at this early stage.  I forgot how rusted out this piece was, and if it didn't have the sentimental attachments to it, I'd be looking for another car!  Anyway, since its worse than I thought, the body is off to the chemical dippers (Metal Rehab here in Arlington), to have everything taken down to bare metal.  Special thanks to Eric Ellis for the vehicle transport device loan...

Here's more pics for your viewing pleasure

So, what are my plans, you might ask?  Well, like the title suggests, I'm planning on this being an Unlimited Street-style car.  Goodies include:

78X94 RLR/Jaycee powerplant, with a little juice added in for good measure
David Crow T1 Transmission w/ 3" narrowed axles
2" Narrowed KL Beam
RLR Lightweight Chevy Brake F&R
Billet Specialites Drag Wheels wrapped w/ MT 235/60 Drag Radials
Complete RLR Rear Torsion System and 1" Trans Raise Kit
RLR Bolt-In Roll Bar Kit
Stock Interior w/Scat Pro Car seats
Numerous Goodies from CSP, WolfsburgWest, JayCee, and RLR, to name a few...

Color?  Not decided, but leaning toward the new Chevy Charcoal-Green common to the trucks, with tan rag and interior

I'll keep adding pictures as I get them.  Should be getting the body and pan back mid January, so look for some then...

Peace Out -

Chad

Chad,
YOUR SPOILED!!!! You must of never been down to Florida. Most people would pay good $ around here for a car in that "bad" of shape.  Roll Eyes Keep the updates coming, I too hope to have something to post soon, street and strip.

While that will in fact be an "ultimate" street car, I am hoping you are actually referring to an "unlimited" street car and will come racing with us!?

Its not as solid as it looks!  Here's the short list of rust repair panels needed to be replaced:

L&R rear bumper brackets
L&R rear fender mounting sections, lower 1/2
L&R heater channels
Front Firewall
Spare Tire Well
Front Apron
L&R Front lower wheel wells near door
Both door bottoms

Hi Chad, yes I'm still there.

Dave, Rick and I are working on the car getting it ready for Pro Mod as well as Unlimited Street, you need to come out and play with us in Vegas when you get your car done.

Glad to see the come back Chad. Street is the way to go. I have been working on a 63 sedan and am teased with the ghia parts to make it go fast. It would be fun on the street.

Chad, what did it cost to dip? I like how clean it is without any chance of distortion from an air driven process. Even though it has some rust it still looks like a great begining.

It was $1100 for the body and pan, $135 for my gas tank, and $125 for "disposal of removed coatings".  If I want the doors, fenders, hood, and decklid, its about $100-$125 per item.  Not cheap for sure, but definetly better than media blasting; all the media/sand doesn't come out the first time you let the clutch out!

Thats funny Chad! I used to help with a 924 road race car that we competed in SCCA with. It was an original factory race car (you could by them from Porsche direct) real stripped down. We took it apart had it blasted repainted etc. The 1st time out the driver said it was like a sand storm in the car. That thing never stopped letting sand out!

Finally finished my buddies '68 Camaro, so the Bug is back in the garage.

Tonight, I got the pan halves cut out.

Up Next: Narrow the torsion housing, 1" trans raise kit, and lay the front bulk-head back...

Thanks for that. It looks very simliar to Chysler Diamond White painted on old Chargers over here in Oz. General Motors also did a diamond white for old Holdens here too so thats problerly what it is... Thanks mate. BTW I hope it is going to be the same colour..

Chad,
You've got some awesome welding skills!!! Car is coming together nicely! How narrow did you go on the rear torsion? Also,
could you post some pics of laying the front bulk head back? Is that what I hear people saying "pie cut" the front end? Keep up the great work!!!

All right boys and girls, since its getting to hot to work out in the garage in the afternoons, I spent some time inside download all the pics of what I've done.  Here goes:

Front Bulkhead Layback:

1" Trans Raise

Modify front access to get my fat-a$s hands in there:

Cut-Off Heater Knob and Fill

Mount Staging Brake where E-brake used to be

Front RLR/Strange Disc Brake Assembled and ready for install

The Big PITA: I've always wanted to do the stainless fuel lines like this, but never had the opportunity until now.  After doing it this way, I'm not sure I'll do it again!  Anyway, I think it turned out pretty clean...

As usual, there's more pics available here: http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l284/cadpro/Project%20Unlimited%20Street%20Car%20-%20Lonestar%20Edition/

That's it for now...
