It is official, The Cooker's Street Shootout will take place at The Pittsburgh Classic in New Alexandria, PA on Sept 12th.
The Winner payout is $3000!
We have Cooker's V-Dubs on board as a sponsor, who all wants to be on board for this event?

This class will be 1/4 mile and will go off the USE rules except a few other things.
- air or water cooled
- only VW Transmissions

We will also have the cruise, but details on that will come at a later date.

Go to http://www.kandlmotorsports.com/Pittsburgh%20Classic/cookerstreet.htm for all the details.

Special thanks go out to Howard Creps, Cooker's V-Dubs & Mark Morris.

It's time for all the VW Racers local to the track, that think they're hot stuff, to put up, or shut up! If Howard, and the Cooker's Crew are involved, there will be some serious s**t that comes out to play from the Aircooled Camp. And if Mark Morris is involved, there will be an equal showing of Watercooled Cars. The Outlaw Class of last year was interesting, but having two full blown race cars in the final, with the runner up being down about 400HP to the winner, the results were kind of predictable. I think a lot more people can relate to a "street car" challenge. If this doesn't inject some life into this event to have it become one of the "must attend" VW Events of the Summer, nothing will. Howard, I love your 51, and hope to one day be able to build a similar car, but my money's on Gene!

Damn, it seems as though they are having a real hissy fit about not being able to run the VR6 cars. I have nothing to do with this, and it's up to the sponsors of the event, but are there really that many fast VR6 street cars? On one hand, I feel that everything should be done to cater to the Watercooled crowd, so that more will attend the event. On the other hand, most of the racers last year were Aircooled, so why not cater to the racers that are allready attending the event. You can't please everyone!

Hate to tell those guys that there will be more than one street Beetle there with 9-second potential.  Grin But,just like the watercooled guys, they gotta get them down the track! We all know the fastest car doesn't always win.

I don't think being a 4cyl is going to be a handicap when you got stuff like this out there,a 676whp daily driven 20v GTI:

http://www.forcefedengineering.com/gallery/edscar/

I found that link from the sig line of one of the posters in that thread who claims a 10.42@141 out of a full interior 16v street car.

Add that HP potential to a really light minimum weight for a water cooled car. Competitive? If cars like this show up and they can get them down the track, yes.

All I can say is that I'm really excited about this class!  Thanks to Howard and Cookers for letting the watercooled guys play.  The full interior 16V street car is one that I'm involved with, and he did run 10.42 last year at the Pittsburgh Race.  He'll be back this year for this race packing some upgraded hardware and he'll be gunning for you fast guys.  As you all know, there is always a certain amount of whining from some people regardless of rules, but I just want the air-cooled racers to know that there are a lot of water-cooled guys that really appreciate being allowed to race in this class.

I like being able to mix it up witht the watercooled guys too!

i guess you can't do something nice without it turning into a big fight.........this started out to be a fastest street legal aircooled event........i'm sure there is somebody that will put up a sizeable purse for the watercooled crowd if you look hard enough.......why rain our our parade?........i'd think you'd be happy for the aircooled guys......I don't run a watercooled car and i would NEVER try to butt into your class of racing...........if you want to race in our class, help out with the purse......why not make it real interesting and have the watercooled guys match the money and make it $6,000 winner take all ?

now that would be an VERY interesting race to watch!! Set it up like the NHRA ladder systems aircooed on one side and water cooled on the other with the winners from each meeting in the middle and see if they wanna race for the $6k each won on their side of the ladder.

With all the BULL SH.T that this has turned into I wish I would have said no to the water cooled cars!!! WTF... This class was set up for promoting my business of building AIR COOLED VW's. I do not build water cooled cars. I thought it would be nice to let the water boys in just to help out this show. I did not build this class to fit GENES CAR...YES GENES CAR NOT COOKERS CAR.. I built Genes car but I dont own it. I dont even have a car I race. This class is set up the same as the U.S.E. class, Genes car just happen to be set up to run the U.S.E. class. Roll Eyes Gene cant win Cookers money back since I didnt even put up the money, Howard did.

Now this is a good idea!!!!

I would'nt get too uptight about it Bro.  People won't be happy no matter what you do (ask Troy S. He'll tell you).  Don't let a few bad apples spoil the whole bushel!

Exactly! I agree with Jerry. I had no idea when I posted up the information on there, that it would turn into what is doing now! Geeze!
I just wanted to promote the class and answered questions.
No matter what this class will be something to remember and we all will have FUN doing it, even if we are watching (If I can get over there to watch it....hmmmmmmm)

Once again, we would like to thank Howard and The COokers for doing all of this for the sport!

Lets see what fast watercooled street cars show up at the first Etown vw race in april, to use as an indicator as to what could be out there, besides BS.

I hope my comment wasn't taken the wrong way, as I was trying to point out that the comment made about Gene's car on vwvortex was silly, and that everyone should just be happy you guys are letting any of the watercooled cars race.  Someone will always complain, but don't let it get to you.  There are many watercooled guys that are really excited and happy you are letting "us" race in this class.

I completely understand, and I appreciate you letting watercooled cars in.  I hope once all this chatter settles-down and the race comes around, you'll feel you made the right choice letting water-cooled guys run.  Again, THANK YOU for letting "us" race-- I am really looking forward to it.  I hope we all can put on a good show.

This comment was not directed at Bob, but the guy on Vortex who said the class was formed just for Gene's car to win.  Sorry for the confusion (re-reading this I can see it wasn't clear), I was just trying to let you know that a comment made by one watercooled guy does not speak for us all.

Mark, we understand what you are trying to do. Trying to keep both sides of anything happy is a challenge. I would like to personally thank you for TRYING to keep the peace between the two factions. A few of those guys over there just really need to create their OWN race, put up their OWN money, pick their OWN track and be done with the bullsh!t of baggin on us and OUR race. But alas, its the nature of the beast, which is fed by the good ole Gods Of The Internets. LOL.

2 years ago I went to this track and couldn't even get my car down it. Dusted a clutch on the first launch, then couldnt get the suspension straightened out the rest of the day. It was a mess, but a very productive day. We learned a lot about the car, the track and staff were INCREDIBLE and we met Howard Creps, the man that just wanted a fast street car and to make this race happen.

And hey...isn't this a VR6?  Tongue

Gene, thanks man-- sometimes I hate the internet, ya know?

What do you guys think of having a seperate watercooled street race, then some type of grudge matches between air and water between the two class winners?  Best out of three maybe?  Honestly I just like the idea of air and water mixing it up at some point-- I love the variety and (friendly) rivalry between the two.  The rear-engined/rwd/air combo vs front-engined/fwd/water is a fascinating contrast.

Mark, the people who run Waterfest at Etown refuse to even entertain the idea of an aircooled vw car(mine) match race up againist one of their water pumpers, say its for water only. They can have "their show" but water is still allowed to mix with air at the april and oct events.

Seems both Etown shows are the exact same date as Farmington, poor planning or coincidence. We still might try to make the second Farm show.
