(I have no connection with the sale...)

Yes, $150K!  Shocked I remember when Stefan did a feature on this car for Ultra VW not too long ago. A sweet car, with cool, period speed equipment.

More details here: http://www.holygrailgarage.com/1952_Karmann_Kabriolet_.html

In looking at some high dollar asking prices/sales recently, I noted that the VW community doesn't seem to value a numbers-matching drivetrain like other collector car hobbies do (and yes, I understand that the cool thing about this car is the period correct performance engine and tranny).

Incorrect color distributor cap, so make it $149,900.

No disrespect intended, but I can't help but LOL at these high-dollar VWs.  Porsche speed equipment from the era or not, it's still an old Volkswagen and not an exotic European sports car with an esteemed racing heritage.

Agreed. It is an excellent restoration, and you may have that much invested in restoring a similar car with similar attributes, but it's still a VW. I guess with the nuts that got into the bidding war over the 198K Bus a few months back just goes to show that there are people with more money than brains IMO. Hey, if the person selling this convertible, and those like Randy Carlson, and Drew Colome are finding people to pay their exorbanant asking prices, have at it. It's helping those wanting to sell a classic VW, but making it more, and more difficult for someone wanting to get involved in the hobby.
