Anyone know what the two white lines on each side of a lane are for? Obviously the general public doesn't.. Someone should really monitor DMV and their testing cause there are so many people that should not have a license, maybe they don't Just venting...

Or my personal favorite, the ol' "oh-crap-its-another-one-of-those-4-way-stops-and-I-have-no-friggin-idea-what-to-do-so-Ill-just-close-my-eyes-and-go".
Oh yeah, dont forget those "careful" people who think they need to slow to a damn-near-complete-stop in the lane before they make a right turn into the parking lot, and just about cause 3 or 4 rear-endings in the process.
It has long been popular opinion that old folks, foreigners, and women cant drive worth a damn...........so look the hell out when you see an 85 year old East Indian lady behind the wheel!

it is the only Federally owned vehicle in the group! Federally owned vehicles get right of way. Now, i don't know a mailman that would take that right of way if they were in that situation, but technically and legally they could.

Ok, heres my all time favorite! Going north on the 405....at the 101 split....when dumb dumbs that are in the exit only lanes to take the 101....but feel they are better than everyone else and jump out into the next ln to the left cut me off....then drive slow looking for their chance to sqeeze in.....usually wait til very last second....God forbid if they have to wait in line @ all....cause their time is much more valuable than everyone elses that are waiting in line....then try to squeeze in but only can get there nose in and the ass of there car is now blocking my lane and traffic in front of them is stopped so they cant move in and my lane is now blocked....I cant move to the left cause lane is full....time to lock them up with a set of doubles....tires screeching.....fighting keeping trailers in the lane and not not plowing into this a hole.....so finally her lane starts to move and I can go by.....meanwhile I've just had a heart attack....and am pissed so I lay on the horn as I go by.....guess what happens next? This lady has the nerve to call my company and complain about "me" honking my horn at her....People suck sometimes . If I was in charge....Excuse me miss....you've just lost your driving privlege....

Whoever got their first. Unless of course the first car arriveing is being piloted by a blue hair then all bets are off on if she ever goes. Now if they are traveling in oposite directions then it gets a little hairy. If they are the only ones there they can both go at the same time or when ever they are good and ready(the one that got there first most likely will be ready first and thus on the move first) to go as long as both are either turning same direction (left or right... not one left and one right) or both going straight. Then there is the quandry about wether the first person to reach the intersection is driveing a Tuner and the second is driveing anything else.... The tuner will make the most noise but the whatever car will most assuredly get through the intersection first. Ponder this.... Who goes first if only one car arrives at an intersection? Is it no one goes first because there is no one to go second or is it the guy that got to the intersection and had absolutely no one else to contend with is still First to go?

If there was no first come first served rule then stop sign goverend intersections would just be mass Chaos! Come now man can you just imagine everyone sitting at a stop sign waiting for the guy on the right to go? well he doesn't go because he is waiting for the guy on his right to go and so on into forever. OR everyone would all go at once as they are all to the right of some other poor schmuck and there would be nothing but gridlock and fender benders. I can hear it now.... BUT I WAS ON THE RIGHT! echoed into eternity or GO YOU #$@#$$(@ !@$$%@hole move that piece of &*&#

Actually Bruce, if you'll read your driver's manual, you will find your comment to be incorrect. There is most definately a "first come, first served" rule, thats exactly how a 4-way intersection is supposed to work. The "guy on the right" rule is there to serve as a "tie breaker", when two or more cars arrive at the intersection at the same time. You're one of those people I cuss at when you go out of turn, or just sit there waiting for something to happen.

I actually had to go through a 4-way stop on Monday... it still freaks me out, what people think about when they reach the intersection... and sometimes 2 cars go in a row... then everyone gets in the middle of the intersection and slams on the brakes....

If you are refering to the white line on your right as you drive, in Oregon they call them fog strips. I was pulled over while driving my truck by a state trooper while comming back from dinner. He told me that I had crossed over the fog strip while driving back to the trailer park. I asked him what a fog strip was and he asked me if I had been drinking. Have you ever tried to breathe into a troopers nose while he is wearing his hat. I drove over the same road the next day and there were places that the road crew had repaired the road, and had failed to smooth the patch down. I guess I was lucky I wasn't pulling my trailer when I drove over the bumps as I would have switched lanes from bouncing over the patches. I guess with out of state plates he figured he had a good excuse to pull me over. He also asked my what year my truck was and after giving him the information he asked me if I was sure that was the correct year.

Here in Ontario, Canada, those lines on the road are only suggestions. That question came up on a phone-in show on traffic law and that was one of the discussions. Apparently you're not breaking the law when you pass on a solid line, etc., you're only taking risks.

When I was driving in Cali I actually saw someone get pulled over for running a red, and I've NEVER seen that here. You have red light cameras too, which they're only talking about here.

Yup, got 3 new ones right here in Marysville in the last year. The cameras are nothing more than a revenue generator for the city, as 2 of the 3 cameras are placed to ticket people who turn right on red without first comming to a full and complete stop. These are in intersections that in all my 18 years in the area, Im pretty sure there has never been one single accident caused by someone turning right on a red. This is NOT a matter of safety, its pure city greed..... period.

Actually Bruce, if you'll read your driver's manual, ...... I have never read a driver's manual, and will never do so. Instead, I purchased a copy of the actual law book. Where I live, the wording is something like, "If two cars arrive at a 4 way stop at approximately the same time, the car on the right has the right-of-way." It doesn't say at exactly the same time, it says approximately. The way the courts deal with that word is that if you collide with another car, you were there at approximately the same time. There is no first-come, first-served rule. If you got to the intersection 1 sec before the guy to your right, he has the right-of-way. You should go to your state's online vehicle law codes and look up the actual wording. You will be surprised at what you don't know.

We've got quite a few red light cameras here in So Cal (one's only a block away from my office), and it's amazing how well most people drive when having to go through one... of course, someone did a study and I guess they cause a slight rise in rear-end accidents (people seeing a yellow light and stomping on the brakes)... and yes, it is a money maker for the city, but they have to do it to recoup the cost of the cameras, etc.

If you got to the intersection 1 sec before the guy to your right, he has the right-of-way.
He only has right of way if both vehicles are stopped. He has no right to run the stop sign and collide with a vehicle that proceeded through the intersection before him. The right of way rule is used to determine fault in the event of an accident. Courtesy is still allowed. The word "approximately" is used to prevent bickering over fractions of a second. The car that is obviously ready to leave the intersection first, can go first. When in doubt, the car to the right goes first.
