Many of you remember "The Great Cam Debate", where I had a Web-Cam 86b from AC.Net go flat within a couple of weeks, sent it in to take advantage of John's "cam replacement warrantee", and was told NOPE because "I didnt pack the cam properly when I sent it back to AC.Net and it was damaged in shipping". This disagreement has been discussed in detail here on the forums and over at Shop Talk, as far back as 3+ years ago. I have maintained that John refused to honor the warrantee because he figured Web-Cam would not replace the cam due to John's mistake in advising me to buy his Brazillian lifters to run with the cam when Web states clearly the cam must be used ONLY with their lifters. For whatever reason, John was not going to be reimbursed by Web, or so he assumed, therefore he passed that along to me and blamed it on "poor packing techniques" and shipping damage. Keep in mind this is only my theory, I really dont know why John did what he did. Anyway, it got all heated up and went on for years, as many of you have witnessed.

This issue came up again recently over in the Performance section and briefly rekindled the debate, and caught the attention of Ann and Kurt Mezger at Vintage Performance. Ann contacted me and said she would talk to Web about getting that cam replaced since John refused to do anything about it. I told Ann thanks, but its been so long now it really isnt a going concern, and I dont feel right asking Web to correct John's mistake. She insisted I send it in to Web anyway, let Web decide if the damage to the cam looks shipping-related or if its just a flat cam worthy of a replacement. So I sent it a couple weeks ago along with a brief note explaining to Web who I was and why I was sending the cam. Debbie at Web contacted me, said she had spoken with Kurt and knew the situation, and has determined the cam is flat and they would replace it NO PROBLEM--- the damage to the cam looks completely normal for a flat cam, excessively worn lobes, but no evidence of any damage caused by shipping or packing.

My new cam arrived yesterday from Web, no charge. So even after 3+ years, and knowing the cam was used with the wrong lifters, they replaced it without arguement.

I post this information for 3 reasons.........1, to say thanks to Web-Cam for outstanding service. 2, to say thanks to Kurt and Ann for the help, even though they had nothing to gain from it. And 3, to bring alittle self-satisfying finality to the the 3+ year debate with John and his claim that the cam was damaged in shipping and could/would not be replaced.

Sorry Brian, the new cam (different grind) is going in the new turbo motor. I forgot to mention: not only did Web replace the cam, but they let me exchange it for a different grind as I no longer have any need for an 86b. Cool people.

Interesting story Eric,

Hmmm I had and interesting experience quite the contrary.

I called up Webcams earlier this year for a set of schubek/prolite ceramic lifters. The price on schubeks site was $560USD. Webcams still had their site advertising those same lifters for $400USD.

I called and they boasted "grab them while they're at this price!!!!"  I was assured/guaranteed to get a set for $400USD. I was put on a list because they were waiting for a shipment coming in that week. I waited and waited with no contact from them.

I then called them back and they said "OH Sorry we shoulda called but your price is $560" after they guaranteed me the price of 400 bucks. I asked if they were postive I'd get that price. Yes yes yes was the answer.  I still find it hard to believe that their shipment jumped in price if its a backorder. I had no notification whatsover. I think the $$$green$$$ changed thier accounting minds.

I wasn't impressed so I ended up buying 2 sets of schubeks from alternate sources and a set of Udo tool steel lifters for my own personal stash.

oddly enough I still like thier products (and I do recommend them) but I'll buy them from alternate sources and never ever go direct to that unorganized fiasco.

i had the same ordeal  with their website/phone as alan did...they had straight cut gears advertised at $40 in the clearence section, and on the other page they showed that they only sold magnums...so of course i called up and asked if they were magnums for $40 bucks, and the girl said yes, and since she wasnt positive she even went to go ask one of the guys if they were.  well i told her im on way to buy 5 sets. so a good 30 minute drive, i get there and find out i was given false info.

Wow guys, that doesnt sound good-- sucks for sure on both counts. Sounds like you BOTH should have got the prices you were quoted on the phone, period, end of story--- a misquoted price on an internet website should be honored, if within reason (I dont think selling a $50,000 product for $5,000 is "within reason" because some computer website geek forgot a zero). This is yet another example of "they screwed this guy but did right by this guy"--- seems to be the case with just about every posted complaint or praise for any retailer.

I'm curious about something that was mentioned earlier in this thread.  Since the Brazilian OEM lifters work fine with Engle cams, why don't they work with Webcams?  Are webcams a different hardness or do they have some other treatment added?

I've never used Webcams before...just wondering.

Thanks,

Neil

As far as I know, they use the same billets. So why does WebCam require Web (Scat) lifters? Because they say so, or no warrantee. Best I can come up with.
