What do you think? To me there is a "flow" missing from the lines, with abrupt endings and beginnings.

"Here we have the first photos of the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle -- you know, the one designed for the American market. At first glance, you could confuse this for a mid-cycle refresh, but look closer. Look at the roofline: The windshield is more upright, the roof flatter and less bubbly and then it just trails down to a steep rear hatch. Overall, this New Beetle looks much more like an old Beetle and less like the rounded three-bubble design of the current one."

Doesn't do anything for me... Volkswagen of today is not the company they once were.  They're trying to be all hoity-toity in appealing to the upper crust.  They don't even sell a truly entry level car here stateside.  They could go away tomorrow and I wouldn't miss 'em.  Lol.

The aftermarket is keeping the air-cooled stuff alive; VWOA in particular could give two craps if us vintage guys went away altogether.

x2, Bugnut... I'm sure everyone remembers the attorney feeding frenzy towards little vendors when it came to their logo use?

I will likely never buy a new Volkswagen... they're just an overpriced, expensive European car now.  All I care about are the air-cooled cars, which VWAG and VWOA likely gives two sh*ts about.  Roll Eyes

I agree John, kind has more of the classic lines to it compared to the first new beetle.  Perhaps the interior won't feel so cavernous (huge like a fish bowl).

The "Classic Bug" definitely wasn't a fish bowl, that design for the NB may have been to appease auto safety authorities... but who knows. Maybe they should just let the NB fade, like the new Thunderbird they tried....

The above photo reminds me of the Porsche 356, B & C pillars. Take a look @ ¼ windows, and how the C pillar flows into the deck lid (trunk). The A pillar IMHO, is all wrong. And the designers have stretched the side windows too much (ala 996). The hood is an abomination. Far too long and flat. It reminds me of the '71 - '72 Super Beetles hood - YUCK!!. Overall, I believe that VWAG has utterly missed this one. Personally, I'd have taken the tired "New Beetle", and had grafted Audi's TT or VW's CC roof lines to it, thus giving it a "new" look.

BTW.....  Whatever happened to the idea of a new generation Karmann Ghia coupe and the Bus (Kombi) that was supposed to be developed? VWAG should retire the "New Beetle" and introduce other "retro" models.

Great points, Chris, and I agree - the TT would have served as a much appealing base.
