Tailpipes no fittee German muffler

Just wondering if there's any difference between Leistritz mufflers between the pre fall of the Berlin Wall days and the current manufactured units? The German Leistritz muffler on my 40 horse was made back in the day when there was a West Germany, and for some reason newer tailpipes won't fit in the outlets, so I have to continually run the same rusted pieces of crap until I can find some that fit.
Did they change the outlet's inside diameters at any point? Just curious.
