I've got a bunch, but these come to mind...

Up late on an April night working on the car to get it ready for the next morning TV shoot for Phoenix Bug-O-Rama and realizing it was finally done.  Lee and I drove to the local grocery store to get flowers for the bud vase and some sodas for the next day.  It had been off the road for eleven months at that time.

Driving my '66 on the first Gene Berg Cruise.  Having it break down in Iowa only to have Gary Berg help get it fixed in Watertown Wisconsin.  Working on it with Gary was a dream come true.  Then driving the car the rest of the way on the Cruise totaling over 5000 miles.  After all that having my story of the Cruise published in VW Trends.  I was on a high for weeks after that.

Don't forget the famous cal-look forums!

Too many but…

i) Running my first nine, only to have some smart ass try to tell me that the track (Avon Park) was always a little 'quicker' and it would only really count if I ran at the other track (Santa Pod) – so I did, and went quicker again. Grin

ii) Collecting the ex-Keith Goss chop-top from the customs depot and realising this piece of history was mine!

iii) Running my first twelve in a genune street car – pump gas, radials and driving 100 miles to track

iv) Launching VolksWorld back in 1987

v) Launching Ultra VW in 2003

vi) Sipping coffee with Dean Lowry and him asking me to sign a book...

But best of all...

vi) Being invited into membership of Der Kleiner Panzers III

For me, a tie between the cover and a feature in the Feb '03 Hot VW's and the Cal Look trophy from the '04 VW Panic...geez, almost forgot that $20.00 check from OCIR I got for winning a Saturday night bracket years ago...

I just thought of another one...

Back in '95 when I just got my car done.  I went to Bug-O-Rama here in Phoenix and my wife sat with the car most of the day until I relieved her.  I had been sitting there for about ten minutes when Bill Shwimmer and Dave Mason walked over and chatted with me about my car for about ten or fifteen minutes.  Sure made my day!  That was even better than the second place plaque I won.

Getting my bus in the VW Trends "Street Scene", back in '99 I think.  It was a nice surprise because they finally used it about a year or two after I submitted it.

First place in the late bus category at a couple Woodburn shows.

Building my first engine in 2000.  Building my current daily driver 2 liter.

Showing my Manx at PIR in 2000(?) and having people comment that "it's beautiful" Smiley  Then I lost out to a non-running trailer queen, but oh well.

Finally getting to the big end at OCIR in our dragster with the first VW connected to a Powerglide without ripping it's guts out.  John Smith and I nightmared tranny fluid on the starting line for months as did Bobby Thompson of Thompson Transmission, the glide builder and glide guru of the day.  All he (Bobby Thompson) kept saying is that no VW, turbo or no turbo could do that to one of his Glides, it did.  The parts today are so much superior to what we had available back then.....  Spent more on tranny fluid than we did fuel but eventually it was worth it.

like every one else, there are many...
probably the top was driving with the rest of the crowd on the first berg cruise in the 57, then giving clyde berg a ride back from the reception at volkswagen of america to the hotel.  sitting on the side of the road with don b when he dropped the valve was interesting, deciding to put his 66 on the trailer and rick mortensen driving his 67 for that leg....rick earned one of my "trailers are for boats" stickers...

driving the 57 right after i got the 1st set of brms put together in 1990 to pueblo colorado for a show, but the highlight was the day before going to a berg seminar hosted by bill greenwood and meeting gene and dee.

going with arnie mohlman with his dkp1 67 to the dkp reunion in 1990, meeing a ton of people, sarge, john lazenby, ron flemming, pete dayton, greg aronson, jim holmes, mike mahafey,  whit and doug haydon, bill schwimmer, dave mason, deano, and who ever else i can not remember at this time
