There has been a lot.
When Deano shot the car for HVWs and then drove it.  Having him speed-shift the 2-3 change as he passed me made me smile.  His comments after getting out will always make me proud.

Rolling into the DKP in 2003 was a huge rush.  That one means a lot....and then running its quickest time ever (pre-turbo) at Carlsbad that same weekend.

That first 10 sec slip.....man, that was cool.  I picked up my slip and then jumped out of the car hooting and hollering.  The track people thought I was on fire LOL

Good times.

I just fineshed the 2387 for my car (dam the CLF !). I took it on the first test drive to town. Tires broke loose in every gear when I got on it. Got to the local VW parts shop and it just happens that Gary Berg was there. I got out of the car and he just looked at my face and my hands shaking. GB said  " Finally built yourself a REAL motor huh ? "  I just sat down, for a few minutes  Grin

Watching THE WIN LIGHT "in our lane" come on during the quick 32 finals at Bug-In 32 against the NHRA G/D recording holding dragster.

The best part about it was that it was a competition of the very best racers and we over came some new car problems by some late night thrashing the night before the event.

The PRA 2005 S/G Championship win was great because we thought we were out of the running after missing the Denver event but pulled it out at Las Vegas with a runner up finish.

I saw that race and it was a all time great race.  Troy made the NHRA Gun Slinger look like a Rice Bunrner Racer.

Dang I to have a couple but nothing to do with vw Oh sorry yes they do,   we have to go back in the "way back macine"  Wink  had to be sometime in '81 or '82 waiting on the "Lido Island" side for the ferry  (had spent the last week lowering my '64 bus,  This gentleman pulls up in a 'Vette Looks at me says  "  Now that is cool I have never seen a bus that low in all my life  I love it!"  Slowly pulling away Reggie Jackson waved.

Then we got on the Ferry head across and it being low tide it took a few people to help lift the bus up so the bumper would clear  Grin

Newport Circle at the peir we had several bugs out cruising on night in the late '80's and the girlfriends were driving the bugs since they had been telling us we did not let them drive them as much as we should so the girlfriend was making a round headed out of the circle one of the other bugs got on it a little and everyone was egging everyone on well the girlfriend does a little dry hop then asked me to hold the e-brake so she could really launch the bug.  So as I let it go the lights go for the  moon, she hit second and then slows down as the other bugs were coming up very fast.  Well these girls coming running up with a few guys you hear everyone screaming and going crazy the look on the girls and the guys faces was priceless they figured it to be a guy doing it and were bummed and the guys are like "hey take me for ride.  After we parked the guys come up telling her it was hard to think a chic could do that LOL.

OH My I am sure I will think of more. Roll Eyes

Have to be seeing the look on my Mom's face when I gave her ride in my turbo 64 bug with about 20 lbs of boost.  Dead stop, 5K RPM side step the clutch launch...

Only time I have ever heard my very Christian Mom say "Holy Sh#@~!"

She still talks about it every single time conversation about VW's come up.

one of mine was near that. a test and tune at the local track. i there with my low 12 sec street ghia.i was there every wednesday night after work. most everyone there knows my car and i almost always made solo passes. one night some new guy, a yellow with black rally striped vette stages with me. hubby and wife in matching helments and color coordinated attire. so shiney. he looked like a classic mid-life crissis. i could see him smurking as we lined up. he never knew what hit him. he went from the return road directly to the track exit and left the facility. i was all teeth.

On tuesday night I finally drove my beetle with the 1914 my dad and I build.

I made a left hand turn from a stop sign and I got on it as soon as we were straight. My dad says "I should have never let you build this thing," but was laughing out loud at the same time. He grabbed on to whatever he could while I snatched gears.  Grin

I have a quite a few but top three wold be.

Frist was finishing my black 67 bug for Der Renn Kafer. It was a huge effort from me & friends It was my dream come true when I stood it on the rear wheels and ran a 12.14 on the first pass at BOR. I came second in that day,(that damm Lawless guy won again). Everyone loved the car and it ran great, I was very proud.

Second would have to be beating Gary Berg in the finals at a Sears Point race in the eighties. Gary even remembered it and brought it up when we spoke at Bug In 32.

Third was being asked to drive the Iguana (repo) at Bug In 32 and meeting Bill Clarkson. Then we took it to BOR and made it to the Semi finals.

Well I have a few but I would say my favorite was when I had just finished my car,  I just completed a pan off rebuild and already had broke in my cam.   The car wasnt fine tuned, in fact it just ran OK (or so I thought).  The motor is a 2276 IDAs and the whole shooting match (biggest motor I had built thus far).   I took the Car over to Art Thraens shop and he found a problem with my distributor and so we swapped it out.   He did a few adjustments on the carbs and made it purrr like a kitten and then he told me to take it for a drive and jump on it a little bit.   Rik Birks hopped in the other side to go for the ride and I proceded to see what she could do.   I jumped on it and slammed through 1st and 2nd and about sh&t myself.  WHOOOOAA that was awesome.  I was shaking when I got back to the shop I was absolutely amazed and a little nervous by the power it had.   It took me about a week or so to really get the hang of it and to start to feel comfortable.  Everything else was icing on the cake.   Peace Roger.

Getting on the cover and featured in hotVW's magazine has got to rank #1 with me

Winning my first NASA drag event at Sears Point... if I could have figured out how to tie the trophy to the hood of the tow rig for the ride home I would have!

Helping out a frustrated guy at the track, I suggested and made some changes and it worked out great!

Landing my first two race sponsors, Brentwood Dentistry and The Bug Stop

Winning my class then the next class up at the Grand National Roadster Show

Not qualifying for Super Gas at Vegas one year, I missed the 12.15 (adjusted index) 3 times. I guess I had one of those 'when life gives you lemons you make lemonaid' days, I moved over to Pro Eliminator brackets and went 6 rounds to win the class... using 12.15 as my dial-in all_day_long.

Would be last night.  I finally started my Jason Lauffer-built VW Paradise 2387.  I've had this motor for 3 years and have had delay after delay.  Was music to my years.  Made the last 4 years worth it.  Now just need to fix the brake lights, fix the tranny leak, fix the oil leak, align it, etc, etc...

Like those who have been around for more than a few years, I've had a number of proud moments, but the proudest came relatively recently at DD2. At the end of the day I was leaving and decided to drive up the aisle the DKP guys were parked in and say goodbye. As a turned the corner I was passing Clyde's pit and he kinda waived me down and came up and said "this has always been one of my favorite rides"......Wow!

-My first drag race, way back in Sept of 2002, with my 40 horse-- I didn't know what the heck I was doing, but it was still fun! (Oh, wait-- I still don't know what I'm doing...)  Grin

-My car being recognized whenever I go to an event, either in a good way ("Hey, there's Skeeter!") or a not-so-good way ("Oh hell, there's Skeeter...")

Every time I fire off a VW motor I just built, used to get all nervous, afraid I didn't do something right, now I look forward to hearing them take that first breath of life.
Another memorable time was when I was up in the North Georgia mountains in my baja and about 30 miles back in the woods on an old logging road away from any sign of life. Something went wrong with the valve guide in one of my heads and all that was holding the valve was the guide boss and spring retainer and keeper. The valve guide just kind of wore away. That vw motor held together all the way back to camp and didn't leave me stranded. Can you say brass and aluminum shavings all in my motor?? Probably due to the VZ 14 cam and guide with LOTS of miles on them.

Like others who've written before me, there are many...  I thought about this for a few minutes before typing this and here's a few that really stand out for me.

1.  Taking a test drive in my '70 with my first close ratio gearbox that I built myself.  It worked! Grin
2.  Running my first 12 second pass in that same '70.  That was a really big deal in the 80's.
3.  Driving my '62 under its own power after literally a complete build.
4.  My 11.811 pass (at a track dominated by V8's).  Besides the incredible pride of running my first 11, the reaction by the V8 crowd was awesome.

Getting beat at a TVWDRA race by my 16 year old daughter in the car I taught her to drive in.

Or maybe bringing both my daughters home from the hospital in my '77 Rabbit.

Look what she is doing now.

My proudest moments with my 58, is first and formost building my pan-off restoration DRKC car. There's nothing like hearing the 244HP motor you've built, fire up for the first time and your heart racing.

Debuting my 58 at the June 05' classic weekend on Thursday's DKP night and winning the DKP cal-look choice award. (definitely the highest honor I could ever imagine.)

Having a spread in Hot VW's

Finding out that my 58 was chosen to be on the cover of xtreme VW's volume 2 dvd

And also being on the BOR#57 poster

Too many but…

i) Running my first nine, only to have some smart ass try to tell me that the track (Avon Park) was always a little 'quicker' and it would only really count if I ran at the other track (Santa Pod) – so I did, and went quicker again.  Grin

ii) Collecting the ex-Keith Goss chop-top from the customs depot and realising this piece of history was mine!

iii) Running my first twelve in a genune street car – pump gas, radials and driving 100 miles to track

iv) Launching VolksWorld back in 1987

v) Launching Ultra VW in 2003

vi) Sipping coffee with Dean Lowry and him asking me to sign a book...

But best of all...

vi) Being invited into membership of Der Kleiner Panzers III
