Kathy, if you've been enjoying "The Pacific" you should read the book called "The Fly Boys".  Awesome read.  You can get it from amazon.com used, cheap.

I will do that, thanks!

I also want to read...Helmet for My Pillow: From Parris Island to the Pacific by Robert Leckie
and With the Old Breed by E. B. Sledge

Of course Flags of our Father is a great book I still have yet to read.

Have you been watching The Pacific?

Jon, please don't tell me you don't read while you're sitting on the $hitter.  Yes, I've been watching Pacific.  Thanx for the tips on those other books.  Have you read Tom Brokows "Greatest Generation"?  By the way, I think Flags of our fathers is written by the same guy as Fly Boys.

I really enjoy the Pacific and so doe's my Dad. He was there. USN he was a Seaman First Class on a transport ship and duty as a Port gunner/signalman on a LCVP and dropped Marines on the beach's at
Leyte, Luzon and Iwo Jima. Dad has been picking the movie apart constantly. He said those marines did not have hair like that....they had Marine hair cuts. When they was all enjoying a relaxing meal in the
ships Mess...they did not sit down like that! What dad? No ya stand up and eat...the tables can be rasied up..so ya get in and out fast.... but we still like watching it. He traveled all over the S. Pacific.
He still knows Morse Code and Signal Flags...he can tie some dang good knots too...Be 85 the 27th April.

Yes -- Please tell him thank you

We were down at the palm springs air museum 3 weekends ago. They were flying a Hellcat and a Bearcat that day and they had guest speakers talking about the carrier war in the Pacific during WWII. They talked about tactics and the battles, very entertaining. But the Highlight of the day was when they introduce a gentleman that actually flew off the carriers and fought the battles. He deserved the standing ovation he recieved.
