ya know, if the 'protest' is truely a day without an illegal immigrant without clogging up streets, parks and public transportation... fine. but how is it a day without an illegal immigrant if they plan to march on major cities and disrupt the otherwise normal cycle of things? show me what a day without an illegal is really like, and i will show you that the US can survive just fine... that is why there will be protests and marches, not just folks staying home...

Better yet, how many can sing our national anthem in English? Not everyone can. And its funny that a Brit started it.

WTF?!?!? I heard this reported today and it got me frosted. The story ended with a comment from President Bush - something along the lines of " I don't like it. The Star Spangled Banner should be sung in English. Citizens of this Country should speak English and the Star Spangled Banner should be sung in English."I loved it!

AARRGGHHH !
IMO, that flat out ticks me off. Never thought that either Dave or I are, or were predjudice but again, IMO, this is just flat wrong. My new mission is to ask any Spanish speaking person speaking Spanish "Si hablo Englais ?" and if they say "Si", then politely ask them to do so if they want to live / work in America....
Nothing more annoying than to have a crowd of Spanish speaking people jabbering away and usually quite loudly if ya ask me which you didn't.
The National Anthem in Spanish = Wrong and a slap in the face, again JM not needed O.

Man, Irwindale Speedway (I'm not racing there this year or any more until the race director has left the house...) circle track races last night........ well, this is from www.BCSportsimages.com IS circle track Non Official forum: "I ,and several other pit crew members and racers were totally OFFENDED by the track announcing today!!! This is fricken America,we speak ENGLISH, we have rituals such as Boogity,Boogity,Boogity, hot dogs, Chevrolet but the fricken bimbo announcers speaking fricken Spanish has gone TOO FAR!! Never, ever desecrate "gentlemen start your engines' by doing it in a fricken foreign language. The are few if any mexican drivers, even less fans so BOB,JIM, hear me well,....The announcers actions tonight were not taken well by those in your pits. Please do not let this crap happen again.Corrective actions need to be taken against the offenders!!! It was total bullsh*t!!! Not everyone supports the illegal actions of a race of people to do a terrorist act such as shutting down Commerce in Los Angeles. The National Guard and Armed Forces should come to LA to repel this terrorist force just like efforts in Iraq!!!Hell, they're fricken illegals!! I'd better stop, Where's my Confederate flag?It will be waving our next race!! Yes Uttster, blue hairs are out of place!! Don't mess with my America!!" ....and there are many other comments about this subject too on there....

Here it is..they did rewrite the words to it also... Spanish-language version of national anthem An English translation of Nuestro Himno, a Spanish-language version of the national anthem:
Verse 1
The day is breaking, do you see it? In the light of the dawn? What we so acclaimed at nightfall? Its stars, its stripes, flew yesterday In the fierce battle in a sign of victory, The glow of battle, in step with liberty At night they said its being defended!
Chorus:
Oh say! The voice of your starry beauty is still unfolding Over the land of the free The sacred flag?
Verse 2 Its stars, its stripes, Freedom, we are equal We are brothers, in our anthem. In the fierce combat in a sign of victory The glow of battle, in step with liberty My people keep fighting It's time to break the chains At night they said its being defended! Oh say! Your starry beauty is still unfolding.

Yesterday up in Redding at the car show, some lady sang the Anthem to kick-off the day.............she was absolutely terrible, couldnt sing to save her life, and couldnt hardly remember the damn words. THIS pissed me off all by itself. If yer gonna sing it, sing it well and for God's sake KNOW THE FRIGGIN WORDS!! Otherwise, its a disgrace to our country and our flag. And to sing it in a different language is just downright anti-American, going against the very idea it was written to promote. Bush said it best, and he wasnt afraid to say it--- our Anthem should be in English ONLY. If you dont know it, learn it. This is America, not Mexico. (depsite what many illegal law-breakin disrespectful mooches might think.)
Im starting to take this stuff very personally, and gettin' pissed off enough to start doing something about it. I think ALOT of us are. This might get very ugly unless our "government" decides real quick to take some action.
Bleeding heart Libs who have sympathy for em, you can shut up and get the hell out too, right along with em.
Ive just about f*$!@%* had it.

Interesting you mention Walmart as taking a loss, because I spoke with the shift manager at our local Walmart Monday evening who said the day was at least as good as normal, maybe even better-- it was the 1st of the month when everyone gets their checks. They had a negligible amount of no-shows, no different than what they expect on a normal day.

Are they suggesting replacing the english version with the spanish version, or are they proposing to sing them both? I don't have a problem if they sing both. If they are trying to replace the english version, then thats just plain stupid. The way I see it, if somebody is singing it in spanish, then they are showing respect for the US in the only way they know how. I see nothing wrong with that.
But then, I don't usually have the same views as most about this stuff. After all, I don't speak spanish, but I don't care if people speak spanish around me. I'm not gay and I don't care if gay people get married. I worry about ME and let YOU worry about YOU. I think thats what America is SUPPOSED to be about. Freedom to live the way you want to live.
I try to live my life by the following quote: "The quality of your day is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it". I wish I could remember where I heard it so I can give credit, but I take it to mean that if you are pissed off or having a bad day, there is a 90% chance it's you're own damn fault.

Where Garry?
La Burrita.... We have four of them.... My grandparents go there every day for breakfast, but anymore.... Bear Creek corp. has hundreds of Illegals working in the orchards here and they are claiming that they are making 15-17 an hour but I know that is a lie.... Oregon Emplyment records can show you that..... They are making close to $6 an hour.... If you buy Jackson and Perkins products you are supporting them..... Just thought I'd put that out there.... As a landscape Contractor it PI$$ES me off that 60% of illegals are working in my industry driving the prices down to nothing.... They are also working unlicenced... I pay out 1600 a year per employee to have them work for me and $2500 a year for Lic and insurence... My quarterly taxes for employees is close to $20k.... Then I have to pay taxes on myself and my Partner..... If there are 12 million illegals out there and 60% are working in construction how much in taxes and worker comp do you think that is???

ahhhh...... THIS IS THE NATIONAL... " NATIONAL Anthem.... THIS IS ONE COUNTRY NOT TWO..... Should we have a Gay National anthem too..... Maybe we can have a white one, a black one, a Chinese one, a Japanese one etc..... How many do you think we can have before it loses its meaning??? We can give them thier own flag too... Maybe we can just get rid of the whole USA thing.... We can just call it the place that people come to Freeload and take advantage of our freedoms but don't want to become a part of it..... If you want to be an American you can do it the same way that anyone else on the planet would...... If you don't want to sing our anthem, then get the hell out of here... YOU ARE NOT AN AMREICAN AND WE DON't WANT YOU ANYWAY...... If you want to play buy the rules we will welcome you with open arms....

Agreed. One country made up of a bunch of immigrants from other countries. Just because you don't want to embrace your own ancestry, does not mean you should should prevent others from doing so. Should we have a Gay National anthem too..... Sounds fruity. But like I said, I don't care what gay people want to sing. Maybe we can have a white one, a black one, a Chinese one, a Japanese one etc..... Hmm, sounds like a melting pot of anthems. With a bunch of people showing respect for the country they live in in the best way they can. How many do you think we can have before it loses its meaning??? It will always mean the same thing to me no matter what anybody else says or does or sings. See the 10% 90% quote I posted above. We can give them thier own flag too... You can if you want, but I think there's already too many flags to keep track of. Maybe we can just get rid of the whole USA thing.... We can just call it the place that people come to Freeload and take advantage of our freedoms but don't want to become a part of it..... I'd like to see some numbers on this. You're not the first person who has told me that illegals are freeloaders. But honestly, I've met way more Americans that are taking advantage of the system (not working, living off welfare) than anybody else. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I'm curious about the actual percentages.
I guess this is the way I'm looking at it: Spanish meaning English meaningSi = yes carne asada = steak Spanish Star spangled Banner = English Star Spangled Banner Above you were talking about the anthem losing it's meaning. As you can see the meaning hasn't changed, only the words that convey that meaning. It's sad to see all the anger and hate. Steve

I wasn't going to respond to this thread simply to save myself the stomach acid this topic generates in me. But as usual someone totally convices me that they are smoking hash out in the Alley before posting on this forum.... How in the Hell anyone can possible say something like that is just totally beyond me. Do you not see an inherant problem with the spanish version simply because it IS NOT the original version? How about I make up a version of it in Russian or Swahili (SP?) or some crap and just go out there changeing the words around to what ever I think it should be? Hell i could turn it into a story about a bunch of butt brothers Rolling on X and gettin freaky with the cat. But that is cool to you since it might SOUND like the national anthem what do you care right? Showing respect to our country would be to learn it in English as it is intended and written not adapting it to another version. That is simply disrespectifull to us and It. (Us meaning us real americans) And to any lib wanting to start an arguement about my butt brother comments or the real americans comment as you will be offended by it and hence proving you are not real americans. to you pill heads that take offense to the X comment or to you PETA morons that don't like the cat thing just one word for all of you...... Oh and by the way how is their version the same as the real version?
O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream: 'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!” And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Writen by Francis scott key in 1814.
Compaired too
The day is breaking, do you see it? In the light of the dawn? What we so acclaimed at nightfall? Its stars, its stripes, flew yesterday In the fierce battle in a sign of victory, The glow of battle, in step with liberty At night they said its being defended!

Yeah there's a difference and it's just plain wrong , I'm sick and tired of seeing billboards and other ads in spanish also , Hell some parts of San Diego you'll see more business signs in spanish than english , it's disgusting !!! Now our National Anthem What a shame It's funny how as I read this thread and others like it that people will call you a racist or call you a jackass and tell you to get over it because thry are already here Ect. Ect. Ect. WRONG , I can't get over it and I'm not a racist , I'm a AMERICAN and Proud of it !!! Why people can't see what's wrong with are national anthem being re-written in spanish or any other language is beyond me This is AMERICA come to our Country LEGALLY , learn the language , and assimilate , and 99.9% of the people of this country won't have a problem with it , But when crap like this starts happpening you should expect some anger , it's just F*@#^%! WRONG This was posted on another thread , but it should be read "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Do any of you know how many millions of dollars it costs this state (and country) every year just to print the millions of government forms in 13 different languages? I say English, and ONLY English---- and that goes for EVERYTHING, including and especially our Anthem. I guess Im a racist jackass.

Yah... Lets go to the USA and be UNAMERICAN because they won't do anything about it..... 100 years ago they would have been tied to a tree with nothing under them..... The funny part is, they don't celebrate thier own idependance, why do they need to celebrate ours and desecrate our traditions....

I guess it's kind-of a catch 22 being an American and having a constitution that protects the right to free speech. As long as we have the first amendment, we might as well grow a thicker skin and get used to hearing things we don't want to hear. Thats what I did and my blood pressure has never been happier. And BTW, I'm definitely not a democrat. I've voted rep. in every major election in the past 12 years. I hope everybody has a great weekend, even the ones that called me unamerican

Once again, the point is completely missed. I dont understand why it is so friggin hard for some people to understand the difference between "legal" and illegal", "American citizen" and "illegal alien". Our Constitution provides rights to AMERICAN CITIZENS, not illegal invaders. If you're not an American citizen, you dont have the right to diddly squat in this country. And even though it may be the "right" for someone to sing our Anthem in another langauge, so long as the singer is an American citizen, that doesnt mean its the right thing to do and its gonna piss people off.

If you dont' want to be an American "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?".... Freedom of speech does not apply here.... Read your constitution..... If you have no right to be here do you think you have freedom of speech??? As far as my freeloading comment before, IF YOU DON'T PAY TAXES AND YOU SEND YOU KIDS TO AMERICAN SCHOOLS YOU ARE A FREEEEEEELLLLOAAAADER!!!!!! (CLUE 1).... IF YOUR KIDS DON'T SPEEK ENGLISH AND I HAVE TO HELP PAY FOR BOOKS WRITEN IN SPANISH FOR THEM, YOU ARE A FREEEEELOOAAAADER!!! (CLUE 2) Maybe someday it will sink in and you will figure it out.....

I'M NOT CONDONING ILLEGAL IMIGRATION.
I see a bunch of people saying I'm missing something. If you look at the very first thing I posted in this thread, you'll see I was asking a question because I didn't understand what exactly was being debated. To be honest I still don't. Are you saying that if you hear some dude singing the spanish Star Spangled Banner in the shower you want to deport him? Because if so, then thats unamerican, in my book.
I'll say it again. I'M NOT CONDONING ILLEGAL IMIGRATION.
I think people are confusing two different issues going on in current events right now. I think the illegal imigration thing sucks, because it's hurting the legal imigrants. The irony is that a lot of legal imigrants are the ones trying to help the illegals. I can see why they do it, though. One guy gets in legally, then he wants to get his family and friends over too. Well, that guy should have helped get his family and friends over when he was doing it legally. I don't know what the process is to immigrate here, but I'm thinking we should get people on a waiting list. When they are close to the top, make them take some classes teaching them what they need to know to be an American, at their cost, of course because it's expensive to be an American, and they better get used to it.

Do you guys have any idea how many LEGAL US citizens speak spanish? A bunch. And if they want to be stoked about living here and want to sing the national anthem at some family reunion or something and most of the people there speak enough english to get by, but are more comfortable with spanish, then they should still be allowed to sing it, IMO.

To me it's wrong that I can say "Bush sucks a big one", and I'll probably get a bunch of people patting me on the back, but if I say "hooray para los Estados Unidos" (hooray for the United States from an online translator), everybody gets all pissed off over it.
One more time, I'M NOT CONDONING ILLEGAL IMIGRATION.
