Okay, so I'm living in a small town of 2,500 working in my field of study, journalism, and there's basically no VW community to speak of, other than a few other Bugs that happen to be in the area, but basically there's no enthusiasm here, so to speak. So, to quench my interest to the outside world, I subscribe to Hot Vdubs and also regularly scope out this site and many others. For some time now I've been having no issues getting my mags in the mail, other than some woes with the October issue which were resolved, but as of now I have yet to receive the May issue...and we're almost halfway through April. I've already called the sub department and a replacement copy will be sent, and that's cool, but I suspect my issues are not with the magazine distribution but my local mail carrier. I stoppped by the other day to see what was up, as I'm expecting some other mail and have yet to receive one piece of mail this week, which is highly suspect. Turns out they're short-handed on help and currently have two carriers doing four routes...I don't believe they're completing all the mail delivery each day, as a result. Co-workers of mine have completed about the poor service in the lobby, as well, which is nothing new. I saw that while living in Eugene, as well, but the thought of my mail sitting in the bottom of a bag somewhere because "Newman" is dragging his heels--lol--is too much for me to bear. Anybody happen to know if postal employees are not allotted overtime, as it's a little frustrating and worrisome for me, especially if my bills show up late. Just curious as to what the labor allowances are, as I always thought the adage was "Through sun and snow and sleet, rain, etc," was supposed to be the case. End rant...

Simple Fix, Contact the Postmaster, tell him you are writing a Story about how Bad the Service is and my bet things get better soon ! please remember that Most at the PO are Boneheads, it's no longer a Government Agency, thus WE have no control or Recourse and at times the Service is as bad as it can get, Regards, Glenn..

Good tips, there, Glenn, the power of the press ;-) I would think, especially given how unemployment is such a major issue in the state, that perhaps people oughta know that there IS a substantial need for employees. There's a story in the works, right there :-D Ten years down the road, after earning the Pulitzer Prize, I'd explain my motivation: "I didn't get my killer issue of Hot VWs in the mail, and so something HAD to be done!"

Better yet, why not write a letter to your local newspaper?

^^I would, Bruce, but given that I work there, odds are it would be a conflict of interest. That, and the fact that everyone in this town knows who I am, I'd worry about "cowboy justice" against my personal property. Lol. :-p

Ryan "IS" the Local Newspaper ! Ryan, Just do a story about the great Huntin & Fishing and at the end say, oh and by the way," Hows your Mail Delivery Lately ? " Small towns are great, many with your Degree and Ball & Chained into a Cubicle in L.A. just trying to make ends meet and then stuck in Traffic !

Okay, so I'm living in a small town of 2,500 End rant... That's a major metropolis around here. Guess we are fortunate, we have old timey, dedicated rural mail carriers. If you work in town, any possibility of stopping and picking up your mail at the PO ? Know it can be a hassle but at least you would be assured of getting your mail ? Especially the necessary, dread but needed bills. That is scary, not getting your mail, could make you late on payments, etc. Good luck, Judy

Actually, yeah, and that slipped my mind entirely, Bruce, in all honesty. Not sure my boss would go for it, though I think a general column on customer service--that's a sore topic in my mind around here in more respects than simply the postal office--might be a worthy pursuit, especially if I could integrate the latter in the topic as well. Judy, they did suggest I have my mail held for me and I may just start doing that. My bills so far (thank God) have been showing up on time, but I'm seriously thinking of setting up a PO Box.

Periodicals (used to be called second class mail) such as Hot VWs are not supposed to be delayed. Overtime is time and a half. After ten work hours it's double time. Maximum working hours in a week is not supposed to exceed 60 hours. It's not easy to do 80 hours of work in 60 hours.

^^I was hoping you'd chime in, Gary I was looking for some insight, but I still can't, for the life of me, figure out how I could possibly go five days straight with no mail. I'll check with my neighbors, but it looks as though the local carriers didn't even hit my block this week. And my complaints aren't with the postal service in general, just my local office, as every time I've ever gone in there the people working there don't seem to be too concerned with helping people quickly and effectively. George: "Say, Newman, what do you do for a living?" Newman: "I'm a United States postal worker." George: "Arent' those the guys who come back and shoot everyone?" (jokingly) Newman: "...sometimes..." Jerry: "Why IS that?" Newman: "Because the mail never STOPS!"

Print is dead. You're reading the future!! Ryan, your post reminded me of the rural mail man in the movie Funny Farm - you think you have bad service??
