Has anyone on here had to go under the scope? I blew out my right knee( tore a bunch of cartalage). I'm just curious what the time frame is to full recovery and what the pain was like. Im lucky to have short term disability at work. Im just glad when I can get back to normal stuff again instead of laying around. -Jacob-

I had my left knee done in 2000.  Same day sugery, out in the evening.  Pain wasn't too bad, in fact the pain was much better then trying to walk with the tears, but it was darn stiff and I lost a lot of strength.

The PT is very important.  Once I startted to really work out and follow the program in the gym it came around and felt much better.

I had to have it drained about a week after surgery - it was still painful and tender - followup on that, because when they drained it, the difference was amazing - I walkout out of the docs without the crutches and in no pain.  The preassure from the fluid buildup really makes things hurt.

Good Luck!

I have had four knee operations since 1994.

the latest ones were day surgery, recovery, after 1 week i was putting up a new plasterbord ceiling.  Fully recovered 3 weeks, make sure you follow the exercises.  Otherwise you will be back in again, especially work on the inner quad.

No drain required, although i did get an infection on the second op which caused me to be off for about 10 weeks.

All cartlidge operations, and what is called a lateral release(They cut the muscle so that your knee cap moves over slightly)

I got my MRI today. My first one Smiley add that to my list (cat scan last injury). I go Wed to get the verdict. I saw the MRI images and was impressed. Those things take good picture. -Jacob-

I have had a total of 4 surgeries on both knees.  3 on the left and, most recently, 1 on the right.  I had an ACL reconstruction of my left knee in 1991 and had to stay in the hospital for 2 nights afterward.  The total recovery time from that operation was about 1 year.  I have had that knee scoped once since the reconstruction, just to clean up some cartiledge and was walking the next day.
The most recent on my right knee was back in January and was just a scope and I was weight bearing the next day and walking without crutches the second day after surgery with the only significant pain being immediately after surgery.
Good luck and take care of those knees!

Depends what your MRI says. Could be real simple or could take up to two years. Best thing to do is get your quads and hams as strong as possible before the surgery, shoot for hamstrigns beign 80% as quads on a one rep max. Then begin strengthening the good side after surgery. There is a cross over effect and working the good side will improve the strength of the surgery side. I lost 1 1/2" on my quad in one week. 15 hours of rehab per week and it's just as strong as the other side but is 1/2 cm smaller after 5 years but my surgery was 2.5 hours. The knee works great though - rehab is the key!!
