Whoa...... thats gotta be the most realistic-ish moving robot I've ever seen...... are we sure thats not just two very skinny guys bent over facing each other wearing backbacks? Unbelievable how its able to recover and keep itself upright, and make natural adjustments to changing terrain.
And yeah, kinda freaky.

OMG, that is sooooo awsome. This high tech stuff is something else. Were getting to a point when the future wars are fought, there will be few humans interacting in the campains, at least on the USA side. It will be controled by people working joysticks looking at monitors. They are allready doing that with the unmaned aircraft in the Afganistan and Iraq wars.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that video games were designed by government agencies to train the next generation of military personnel.

Imagine being enemy militants, and seeing 5000 of those things coming over a ridge at once......fully armed with automatic weapons. Just that sound they make would make 'em piss themselves.

On the topic of what Mike said, being a avid gamer myself I'd have to say it looks an aweful lot there may already be a mutually beneficial relationship in terms of AI. --Ryan

Boston Dynamics tested several leg orientations while developing 'Big Dog' and the biomimetic orientation (knee/elbow joints facing inward) did not perform the best...if you notice, Big Dog has it's knees and elbows facing outward ("ankles" and "wrists" inwards, opposite to a real dog/quadraped). The leg movements/stiffness are modeled from quadrapedal, terrestrial locomotion research, and IIRC, "Big Dog" can 'cantor' and 'gallop' as alternate forms of locomotion (besides simply walking).

You are allways one step beyond the curve Mike Did you see the movie "Toys" with Robin Williams? That's exactly what they did there. It was a little far fetched back then, but seems quite plausable now.......

I think I've seen some documentary that showed some games originally designed by the government, but open to private developers also that eventually turned into public video games, and also trainers for the military.
