half the time i had the right tires over the line into the shoulder trying to straddle those canyons. or the left side riding the left line. and when i do stay in the lane, its good practice not to over correct and whip the trailer around too much as i try and swerve to avoid some of those. one of the holes i moved around, right after, i glanced in my mirror to see John Troxells entire side of his trailer as he tried to do the same thing LOL. its good gentle steering input practice for the race track.

Is the speed limit still 45 up there? Last few times I drove over there it was interesting watching people fly up behind me (going the speed limit) and then standing on the brakes. Sucks, but I can't afford any more points on my license...I've already done traffic school and got another freebee from my insurance for customer loyalty...
Why do they keep the speed limit at 45mph 24-7 when the Caltrans guys are only out there working a 40 hour week (if that)?? They do the same thing on 14 going through Palmdale (construction's over as you drive into town, but they don't raist the speed limit to 70 till you're driving north out of Lancaster). I could speed with everyone else, but I'd be the poor sap who got busted for 30 over the posted limit in a construction zone...

You must be talking about southbound just before going down the 6 % to Castaic. If you are it's still 45.

My wife is 5 months pregnant and she's still thanking me for dragging her along. lol The 5 from the 605 all the way to the top of the grapevine sucked. Heading back (southbound) in the same stretch seemed to be even worse. Our tax dollar hard at work!!!!!

California tax payers are paying one of the highest state and Fed. taxes on gas. And with gas way over 3.00 bucks a gallon, the state is getting flooded with much more money. California is at 49 in the USA on the condidtion of its highways. I took the 99 to SAC and back, it was all broke up too.

Here's the big unknown Robert, the Fed and state taxes are a set amount. The other tax is called local tax and it is a percentage amount. Here in Ventura County it's 7.25 %. So last Decenber when gas was 2.65 or so the tax amount was less. Now at 3.25 or more, guess what, wind fall for the politians.

Yes, that set amount varies from state to state, ours is around .20 cents state, .20 cents Fed, plus the state sales tax on top of the other two taxes. So gas is 2.76 a gallon + .20 state + .20 Fed + sales tax 7.75% .24 = 3.40 a gallon! Our govt. gets .64 cents on each gallon of gas and puts it in the general fund. The refineries make .10 on each gallon of gas, the USA is riping us off, not BIG OIL.

I have to call BS on that one Bob. Exxon made more PROFIT last quarter than ANY other company in the history of the world last quarter (billions). Their CEO is retiring with more than a BILLION dollar retirement package. How much is enough?

Their CEO is retiring with more than a BILLION dollar retirement package. How much is enough? When a company sells something that everybody needs, you have captive buyers, its not there fault, not everybody can just pump oil from the ground, refine it, transport it. Big Oil also reinvests there profits back into more wells and exploration, the worlds population is not static, the fuel demand is higher each and every year. The thing that I agree with you is the greedy CEO, that is uncalled for. There is no one guy that owns Exxon, like Bill Gates owns Microsoft.
