Been trying to pick a color for the 54 rag and cannot find a good sample on line or in person. The car will be stock. Texas Brown? tan? Ultra maroon?, black-no, iceland green-no, Strato-been there, Any thoughts?

the WW site has some colors, but not too good. Glassurit has the same issue.

What was the original color??  I'd stay with that.   If you can't do that, Ipersonally like the Texas Brown, or Ultra Maroon.
   Good luck

Original color to the car I believe to be black. I have a black car,........never again. I am leaning to the UltraLordmaroon.

Original 50's VW colors are always the best!  I love L11 Pastel Green (even though it's a '53 color), and it's not too common either.

Just my 2 cents!  Grin

I agree with Darrell, the early cars really look their best with the pastel colors, maybe green or tan?

Pat,

I painted my '73 Thing (Hot VW's Jan. 2003) L-378 Prairie Beige ('56 - '57 Bug color) and have yet to see a bad a$$ Cal - Look car in that color.

It's one of my favorites, and with the right interior combo, would look amazing.

DB,

thanks for the thought. This car will be bone, bone, bone,. Stock! Oh my god. Stock.  I was thinking the value of the car would be greater if I went with a year correct color. Maybe not though.  The original color was black, so I should probably go black, but I can't do it again. What a pain to keep clean. The pan is about 70% ready and the Body is just out of media blast and getting ready for paint. 36hp fire breather with a crashbox, ouch.

I am leaning heavy on the Ultramarroon with an interior along the tan line and cloth seats.

After the Grey Devil hit the scene, I am too scared to try another looker.

where can i get the code or cross reference formula for Ultra maroon in  Dupont?

That should look great too Pat!

I have an old customer (Meguiars days) who has lots of old Dupont VW color books, and the Dupont computer for the mixing banks.  I will give him a call on monday to see what he can dig up on L276, or if he can call Dupont in Michigan and get it crossed over.

Give me a call on Monday afternoon Pat.

DB,

thanks for the help. If I can't get it mixed here I may be in touch again.

Prepare for a rolling  "redish/burgandy brownish-out" with tan triple fold
