...and it was pretty cool! Up until now I have only ridden in a few 13 second cars (one being a turboed 1776 Super beetle vert-13.18 in the 1/4). My dads girlfriends' son-in-law (NO WE'RE NOT IMBRED Grin) has a 69' chevelle thats a total sleeper-stock car w/ ralley wheels and stock interior, a radical 454 (250HP Nitrious, double pumper holley, 252 degree cam @ .050",
manual valve body etc. The entire time I have been going through my surgeries, month long hospital stays, chemo etc.
(stage 3 cancer, blood clots, 6 major surgeries and 4 left), Greg (the son-in-law) has been telling me "Andy, if your going to sit on your a$$ recovering from operations, you might as well plant it in the front seat of my chevelle-at least then you can have fun while your going through all this BS!."

So I finally took him up on his offer this afternoon. Although his car  runs close to high 10's on the bottle, I didn't have any problem blasting around on just the motor (smoking the bald T/A radials at around 60MPH in first gear).  What a rocket!!! I have never left a stop light (standing still) and reached 100+MPH in a matter of seconds while driving my stock  bug! After passing a couple high school kids in their Mustangs and a guy in a healthy sounding 70 chevy truck, we returned to the "bat cave", with smiles from one end of our faces to the other.

Just when I though my fun was over, Greg pulled a box of Hi-po parts off the shelf in his garage, looked through them, removed a few parts for his MSD ignition box (telling me that he might need them later) and handed the box to me and said "I have been saving these parts for you-have fun!". So now I have about 20 misc Earl AN fittings, some -6 braided line, a TCI line loc, and about three mixed sets of MSD and Mallory plug wires, plus a good memory of  riding around with Mr. Greg "get in and hammer" Dwyer in a pretty damn fast Chevelle. Now I am all ready to start on my 2276 dream motor...anybody got 5-10 thousand dollars they can donate Wink?

Cool story.  As much as I love fast VW's, I still love the thumpty thump of a healthy V8.

i went up to kurt and ann mezgers of vintage performance's shop once and  kurt took a friend and me for a ride in a 2110 super beetle that was pretty ratty looking. he said it runs 13s. all i know ... that was an awesome ride. it must be like a crack addiction... every since then i'm trying to do everything to try to have my bug run at least 13s. i've even been in fast muscle cars but to me nothing compares to a beetle running that quick.

Yeah my buddy's turbo'd vert pulled like crazy as well...most people laugh at a 150-200HP high performance VW until they ride in one (probably has to do with the Hondas producing 125+hp from the factory...and we all know how "fast" one of those monsters are from the factory Grin). I too have been saving up parts to build a stroker motor that will run 13's-so far I have a 76mm EMS crank that needs a regrind on the rods Sad...but hey, you gotta start somewhere!-ANDY
