Kathy,
Thanks! We were moving some gear that way yesterday, and your Starbucks was dead-on the "helo route" that goes between Dulles and Manassas Regional, so that worked out pretty well.
Please let me clarify a bit...the CH-53E that I was flying is used to haul equipment, tools, spare parts, maintenance Marines, etc to the different lift sites that we go to with the VIP helicopters (VH-3D and VH-60N), as well as to do troop lifts for the new Marine lieutenants who train in and around Quantico. I do get to fly the VIP helo's on occasion with a "Marine One" pilot who has been designated to command an aircraft with the Boss aboard, there are only a select few in the squadron who hold that designation. One other tidbit, we only use the callsign "Marine One" when the Boss is actually aboard, otherwise we use a different callsign.
National Geographic did a program on us and that "other" Presidential aircraft a few weeks ago, if you look really close I was on there for about 1/100th of a second. It is easy to see me though, I am the guy with the short haircut wearing a green flightsuit. You should tell my wife how cool I am, every time I mention to her how lucky she is to be married to a Naval Aviator she just rolls her eyes. Maybe we can do an impromptu cruise night at your Starbucks sometime this spring or summer, that would be a good way to edge Jon closer to buying you an old bug to drive!
