Eric Harris totally rocks!
Eric is a Marine pilot who has the very important job of flying our President around in Marine One, the President's big green CH 53 helicopter with the white top you see on the news flying the President to and from the White house.  Well today Eric did a flyover over the Starbuck's that I work at.  We heard this deep rumble and I asked a friend what that sound was.  She said it sounded like a helicopter.  Eric had mentioned the day before that he would try to do a flyover, but I knew that would be low on their list of priorities and I was so busy I forgot.  When I put two and two together I went running outside and sure enough circling over Starbuck's was that familiar Green helicopter with the white top that is always seen on the White house lawn.  They circled around and were flying pretty low so we got a great view.

That was so cool and you totally made my day.   Jon was excited to hear about the flyover since Eric and Jon were both in the same 53 squadron.  I really missed the sound of the 53.
Oh the great memories!

Thank you Eric Smiley

Kathy,
Thanks!  We were moving some gear that way yesterday, and your Starbucks was dead-on the "helo route" that goes between Dulles and Manassas Regional, so that worked out pretty well.

Please let me clarify a bit...the CH-53E that I was flying is used to haul equipment, tools, spare parts, maintenance Marines, etc to the different lift sites that we go to with the VIP helicopters (VH-3D and VH-60N), as well as to do troop lifts for the new Marine lieutenants who train in and around Quantico.  I do get to fly the VIP helo's on occasion with a "Marine One" pilot who has been designated to command an aircraft with the Boss aboard, there are only a select few in the squadron who hold that designation.  One other tidbit, we only use the callsign "Marine One" when the Boss is actually aboard, otherwise we use a different callsign.

National Geographic did a program on us and that "other" Presidential aircraft a few weeks ago, if you look really close I was on there for about 1/100th of a second.  It is easy to see me though, I am the guy with the short haircut wearing a green flightsuit.  You should tell my wife how cool I am, every time I mention to her how lucky she is to be married to a Naval Aviator she just rolls her eyes.  Maybe we can do an impromptu cruise night at your Starbucks sometime this spring or summer, that would be a good way to edge Jon closer to buying you an old bug to drive!
