directed electronics makes most of them, viper hornet , avital

i use a 742t  self installation. all the cool whistles and gadgets dont really apply to old vws,

remote start, power door locks, power windows, interior lights.

front hood decklid , doors, starter kill ,remote battery, combined with a shifter lock

That pager option sounds like a good idea.Unless your with in ear shot of your car some alarms just ani'nt worth squat.I mean ya see them going off all the time at shopping mall etc parking lots and people just don't care of even notice it happens so often. At least you'd get some notification its going off, huh?
I'd be interested in that too if some more input on them.  Grin

Unless the car alarm snares the culprit, keeps him subdued, and phones the police for you, don't bother wasting your money.

hidden fuel pump switch is ideal, a factory unused switch looks best...hard to find in plain sight Wink

I agree. I don't think alarms are of much use for most applications. I don't keep anything of value in my cars, and don't lock the doors. I'd rather they get in the car without breaking the window, rummage through everything and find nothing to be on their way to the next victim. It's happened to me before, and all I had to do was clean up the papers they rummaged through. Nothing broken, nothing stolen.

Now, my work van I could use an alarm on that. Kinda hard not to keep things of value inside of it. THAT vehicle I do lock up tight and keep parked in front of my door. An alarm on that would be nice at night due to that reason.

My VW's, they're locked away in the garage, out of sight, and impossible to get out with 2-3 other cars blocking them in on a single width driveway.

If someone really really wants your car, they'll get it. Hook it to a tow, or push it onto a trailer, or whatever.  LoJack would be my choice in addition to other stuff.  At least then you might find it later.

Exactly. A broken window costs more to replace than a cheapo CD player anyway. The best "alarm" is an unlocked car with nothing to steal inside. And if a good thief wants your car that badly, he'll get it.

Ooopps! Hey Sinikl, was that last line sexist? I mean, I just said "he'll  get it", so don't I get a ration of crap about my sexist remark that assumes all thieves are men? I should be ashamed of myself.  Roll Eyes

Well I know I'm not leaving my bug unlocked! That's forsure.  I agree totally on if they want it that bad they'll get it.  I'll think of some think.  My car use to be locked up in a shop.  It will still be locked up in a carport though.
Alright know how about insurance?  I've always had full coverage on it and still do.  But I have never got it appraised for a value.  Are there any local places in So Cal I can go Huh

x's 2 on the lojack. A 90% chance you get your car back if it gets stolen isn't all that bad.
