I have an antique car stated value policy for my '65 Bug through State Farm.  They told me the value I stated is conditional and I need an appraisal to back it up.

Does anyone know the best place I can get this?  Anyone have experience with this (probably do!).

Thanks for any input.

Mike I have an "Agreed Upon Value" policy from Hagarty. I believe a "stated value policy" is not as iron clad as a agreed upon value policy. With Hagarty I had to send pictures and horse power estimates(lower than actual). They are aware that I have a roll bar and race once in a while. The car is not covered when racing.

Thanks Rob, so no appraisal required for Hagarty then?

Hey Fritter!

I'm going through the process right now, and have contacted Hagerty, J C Taylor, Grundy, and AAA (new classic car insurance program).

Anything over a stated value of $50K and they will ask for, or schedule an appointment (AAA) for an appraisal.

They are also interested in your garage (or wherever you keep you Bug), and want to have a look at that as well (AAA again).

Of all the places I got quotes from, AAA Classic was the least expensive, and had good options.

They are coming out on the 24th of May, I'll let you know what happerns.

I have an "agree upon value" policy also.

A "Stated Value" has to be backed up and they can dispute the amount. With an "Agreed to" policy you submit an appraisal and before and both parties "Agree" to that amount.

i am looking into hagerty also and got the online qoute. not a whole lot of coverage so i am going to call them tomorrow. i had state farm and used to have agreed amount of 10,000 with no appraisel. state farm would not allow me to drive the car everyday (did anyway) only to and from shows and to and from for repairs. my friend has hagerty and says he can drive anytime. anyone know about this or any of the other insurance companies that do this.

Darrell, thanks, let me know what happens.  I have not valued mine over $50K, not even close, I assume you have?   Shocked  Is it that primo Buddy Hale paint job?

I will probably go with Hagerty as I don't want to bother with the appraisal, finding the right appraiser who will correctly value the car, etc.

There are a few "Classic Car Only" insurence Co.s out there... Most of the Companys don't replace or only give you a small replacement when you get it... Get an appraisal in writing so you can go back to it if you need... A lot of parts are not replacable....

I think I have had my Hagerty policy for at least 10 years. Very low hassle and no problem when I had to use the policy for a small mishap Cry It is a stated value policy and the only real restriction is that you are not supposed to drive it to work and no racing coverage. They have upped (recommended) the stated value at least twice in that time. When I dealt with the claims department, I almost couldnt believe how easy they were to work with, even with me doing my own work.

Hey mike do you have your car under their "modified" policy, or the "classic?"  I have Hagerty on the 67, under the "classic" qualification.  I keep thinking soon I should see about notifying them that it is modified.

Well, I called the Volo Auto Museum here in Illinois and they will do an appraisal on my car for $100.  I will have printouts of high dollar VW's with me (Gates car, other cars I found on Samba and Ebay).  The appraiser said it should be no problem with the value I want.

I looked at Hagerty and the cost is twice as much as my State Farm antique policy, and less coverage.  So I will stick with State Farm.
