Trying to fix what appears to be a pinging problem-when the car is going up a hill under load.  I can hear a pinging from the engine compartment.  I am not sure what fuel the lady has been putting in the car but I imagine it would be the cheap ($3.30/gallon) 87 octane, and I am not sure what Mercedes recommended for this car.  Besides that and checking the timing and maybe the EGR valve to see if that is clogged, do you have any other suggestions?  There are four or 5 sensors that provide info to the computer and I believe that leads to adjustments in the timing so if one of those are bad that could lead to wrong timing and pinging too I guess.  Damn watercooled engines!

You know that almost all of the German flagships run on premium only right?? Just thought I'd toss that out there......

I was not sure what Mercedes recommended for this car, but I saw a lot of info on newer Mercedes that suggested the premium gas.
