Hey guys,
I need to take my family on a vacation.  Being the "ever sniveling," poor bastard, school teachers that we are Grin, my wife and I need to find a way to get into the theme parks on the cheap.  The wife has a cousin that's pretty well off and has a nice ranch somewhere in San Diego.  If we crash at his place, that would save us some bucks on a place to stay.

But, how do I get into Disney, Legoland, etc. on the cheap?  Anybody have any insider secrets?  PLEASE let me know! (PM, Email me, or put up a post)

THANK YOU!

Try www.getawaytoday.org they usually have good deals and your school might have them as a fundraiser partner.  We use them when we go to California and for hotels.  This time we got free Seaworld tickets for adults and paid half price for San Diego zoo tickets and there's a $10 delivery charge.  The more you get, the more you save.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I guess I should have been more specific.  I'd like to cruise around So Cal the week after the Classic.  This way I'm only paying for the gas to get there once.  I'm thinking of staying Monday-Wednesday (June 12-14or15) or Thursday.  San Diego Zoo would be a big hit with my girls!

I'll take a look at that link.
THANKS!

And those tickets come with the tours, train, skyfari, and petting zoo.  San Diego Zoo is over the top.  My kids picked that and Seaworld over Disney.  I'm excited myself.

If your going to the San Diego Zoo, go early in the morning. They feed the animals early and they are all up at that time. Later in the day they are all snoozing.

Hey Scott,

I did a bunch of searching prior to our recent trips to Disneyland and Disney World. After much searching, I found that there are not any Disney tickets out there that are discounted much without some major strings to go along with them. You'll see discount tickets advertised, but you have to first endure some kind of multi-hour marketing/sales BS re:condos or property for sale.

Check out the following links for some good info:

Disneyland Overview
http://www.allearsnet.com/dlr/tp/dl/dl.htm

Disney's California Adventure
http://www.allearsnet.com/dlr/tp/dca/dca.htm

Unofficial Disneyland forum #1
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13

Unofficial Disneyland forum #2
http://www.intercotwest.com/boards/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi

Something that is not advertised is the fact that you can bring in your own soft coolers/duffle bags with drinks (no glass) and snack type foods. Doing so is a lot easier on the wallet, and has worked great for us.

If you travel north a bit (Dana Point or Long Beach), a day trip to Catalina Island is awesome. We took the Catalina Express (http://www.catalinaexpress.com/) out to Catalina Island and Avalon (http://www.ecatalina.com, http://www.visitcatalinaisland.com, and http://www.catalinaexpress.com/avalon.php), and had a blast there w/the family. Lots of stuff to do, eat, and see. I'd probably pick it again over a day at one of the theme parks. We went on a seal watching trip that was cool, and looked into a neat trip on a glass bottom boat, but our schedule didn't allow for it.

I agree with the posts re: the SD Zoo. VERY cool - definitely check it out if you have time.

If you're in SD, you may also want the short drive over to Coronado Island. It's a good way to spend a few hours on a cool beach next to an awesome old hotel (http://www.hoteldel.com)

I just went Sea World on Sat. with my daughters and noticed they had some good deals on multi passes
if you or someone you know can get a military discount or something simular you'll save a couple $$
also check the websites of the theme parks , there are some good deals for multi park passes

WOW!  THE CLF IS AWESOME!  THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP GUYS! Grin

I've done all the So Cal parks with the exception of Lego Land.  My girls have not.  My daughter is 6 and is prime age for Disney, so I can't let her down on that. Wink  Through our teachers' union, I can get some discount tickets at these rates:

http://www.ccea-nv.org/website_secure_data.cfm?ID=64

Disney $48 Adult $45 Kid
Lego Land $30 Adult $28 kid (2nd Day Free)
San Diego Zoo $25 Adult  $15 kid

Are these prices any better than what people can do buy bringing in a soda can with a coupon on it?

With my wife's cousin providing us a place to crash at night, I'm saving a bunch on hotels.  Also, since he has a ranch with animals, my boxers (dogs) will have a place to play and be "on vacation" too!  I figure if we can do Disney, a day at the beach, a 2nd day at one of the other parks, a day on the ranch, my girls will be beaming! Grin

Eric, thanks for all the links!  I'll spend sometime studying them this afternoon.

MUCHAS GRACIAS! Grin

Yeah well, you're looking (virtually) at the captain of our new neighborhood watch program. Grin  Not to mention a new owner of a complete home security system.  Besides, if I left the dogs out to "watch" the place, I'm not sure who would do more damage: the dogs? or the potential burglars? Grin  Boxers have to run!  They are full of energy!  Like dogs on Speed! Wink

P.S. Are those prices I listed considered "Good Deals?"

I checked their site and those cards were only available for sale from May 3 rd to May 30th , 2006. Sad

It was a great deal!  Here's a clip from their site:

I have connections and can most likely get you and your kids into Disneyland free.
I'll make some calls and let you know later this eve.
I need to know an exact date you want to go there though.

Definitely hit the SD Zoo and the Wild Animal park.  Legoland is really overrated, and might be a bust depending on how old your kiddies are.  My kids, 6 yr. old son and 9 yr. old daughter, were juuuusst barely entertained for the whole day.  And, its expensive.

Also, Disneyland will be soooper busy @ that time.

Thanks for the recommendation Eric, but I think that will have to wait until my next jaunt to So Cal.  I'm hoping that next summer (2007) that I'll be able to start at the classic and go north to San Francisco and stop all along the way.  The big restriction this year is my 2 dogs. Sad

THANKS!

If you're going to Disney/Cal Adventure, put your wife or a kid in a wheelchair............even if theres nothing wrong with em..............and you wont wait in a single line all day, I gaurantee. Grin

Last year in Vegas for the Bug-In, my wife sprained her ankle pretty bad attempting some ninja attack move while on the "slidewalk" in front of Ceasar's. The following month, we went to Disneyland, but she needed a wheelchair. We were treated like royalty, front of EVERY line, EVERYTIME............we waited for nothing. At first I was complaining like crazy at the thought of having to push a wheelchair around for 5 days, but as it turns out, it was a blessing in disguise--- even made for a great way to stow our goodies and not have to carry everything!

Admission is cheap compared to the prices of food at amusement parks. Last time I bought an apple at Disney it was six bucks! WTF? Maybe it was personally grown by Mickey? Food sucks at all parks no matter which one you go to.
