I noticed that a couple of days ago my History stopped working. It shows nothing for the last two days. At the same time, threads that I view here, The Samba and elsewhere are no longer "highlighted" or marked...you know how they change colors or brightness when it's a thread you've viewed? Mine no longer does that. I hadn't changed any settings or anything. I cleared my cookies and temporary internet files today, ran a full scan, checked the setting on my History and then restarted my computer. Still the same. What's going on here?

You could install Firefox and see how that works. That way you could decide if the problem is IE related, or computer related.

I'm automatically logged in. I had to re-log in on all my forums after I cleared everything and restarted, but I've been logged in since then. I'm using Windows XP, but this problem only started after Sunday night. I still have Sundays history, but nothing for Mon.-Wed. I can't figure it out. And like I said, no threads that I've read or posted on are "highlighted" or marked. It's just like it's a brand new page everytime I go there, but any thread that I read Sunday or before is still marked.

The value in history is four days, just like it's always been. How do I find out what version of I.E. I have?

You can also install Opera, and/or Safari, all free, and maybe faster/better than IE.

click the help button in i.e., then the "about" button.
even if you have the latest i.e. 7, i'm wondering if it would help to install it again, right on top of what you have now.

There is no help button on my I.E. I can pull up Internet Properties, which is where I set my History selections, But there's no "help" or "about" tab.

it's on the same row as: file edit view favorites tools help
right-click on the area at the top, and select "menu bar" to bring that stuff up

Reinstalled, restarted....nothing. Same things as before. What's so odd is that I changed NOTHING on Sunday or Monday. No updates, to downloads, no changes to my browsing history or preferences....NOTHING. It just started (or stopped, rather) out of the blue. I've ran the AVG scan several times since then. The Windows Defender scans daily and I ran a complete scan on Tuesday. All my Phishing filters are on. There's no evidence that I picked up a bug or something. Someone suggested that I turned off cookies....I can't even FIND cookies on my computer! There are, of course, cookies in the Temporary Internet Files folder, but I can't find an option to turn cookies on/off so I can check the settings there.

Got it. Someone on one of my motorcycle forums sent me a link to another message board. Seems that this is a common problem with an automatic update from Microsoft. I used REIS, reinstall IE settings, and it's all back to normal...for now.
