I would LOVE to build a beater for this event!

Endurance Racing for $500 Cars

"Yeah, it's real racing. That said, between the thick scrum of crapcans in front of you and our aversion to long, flat-out straightaways, you're not going to set any speed records. It's kinda like a loud, hot, noisy version of driving to work. For a really, really long time. Without actually getting anywhere. And it's a lot harder to drink coffee through the helmet. Oh, and, you know, it's more dangerous."

Imagine racing a car that you absolute don't give a s#$t about?

This does look like fun-I've read about it in Car and Driver before. And i have to say, that Fiat sedan is pretty cool. Not sure what it is about low end, 60s and 70s European and Japanese cars that pretty much self destructed or rusted into the ground within five years, but I like em!

There's a big following for these events, Easy porsche parts in emeryville ran a 914 last year. My friends shop builds and mantains a few cars for these events along with his own. from fiats to miata's and a big old ford sedan.
maybe the forum could sponsor mine?Huh? LOL!!!!!

Yeah, I would love to enter that event. It looks like so much fun; so down to earth and unpretentious.

I'd love to enter an '83 or '84 GTI. Hell, even old 944s can be found cheap, as long as your don't have high expectations.

I did the LeMons race in Toledo a few years back in a mid-80s Supra (not my car choice, hooked up with an existing team).  Was lots of fun, definitely "interesting" being out there with so many racing newbies, compared to the pro endurance racing I did a bit of in the early 90s.

Highly recommended if you can put a team together for it.  Also check out the Chumpcar guys, same idea, more about the racing, less about the punishments ... www.chumpcar.com.  Did a race with them up here in Ontario Canada last year, nice bunch of people running that series.

cheers
