Claimed to be the 4th Gmund built, and the first coupe.

It's rumoured that the owner recently turned down an offer by Porsche to put the car in their museum, stating: "Tell Mr. Porsche to join [keep] his money because I'll keep my car!"

The car is simply beautiful. IMHO, the Gmund coupes were the purest expression of the 356.

I'm speechless  Shocked

oh yeah I think that that number 4 would make it a 1948 coupé. They built about a dozen of them in 1948 including the mid-engined speedster!

I had a chance to touch and take pics of a 1949 Gmünd in a prototype museum in Germany two days ago. Enjoy:

As unbelievable as this may sound, my friend's dad from high school had one that was converted into a German police car.  We used to check it out when his dad was away on business.  It's the only time we saw it.  He still has it sitting in a garage in Lagune Niguel.  When I left California in 1989, it had not been started since shipped to the US some 10-15 years prior.  His dad served on a police force in Germany and when he left the force he was given the vehicle, which supposedly never saw service.  Chuck no longer has anything to do with his dad for one reason, the car, his dad cared more about it than him.

Great pics, guys.

I had a chance to visit the new museum in Stuttgart earlier this year, and was thoroughly impressed. The old museum sucked, but the new one almost rivals Mercedes', IMHO.

A photo I took of a bent window coupe at the last Rennsport Reunion.
