I caught part of that Wed night...I loved the old clips of Dragnet.

About 12 years ago, I was in this college class, California Cultural History....and we watched a PBS special on the counterculture deal, Kesey, the Diggers, Neal Cassady....etc....and of course the good ol' Grateful Dead. Anyway, there was an awesome clip of the Dead playing somewhere in the Haight or GG Park, back before Mickey Hart...and before Jerry had his beard and his weight. Bobby Weir looked like a kid!!! Anyway, they performed a sizzling version of "Viola Lee Blues".....with a particualrly strong jam between Bill and Phil.

Super cool!

I think if you do your homework about those times, you will find that those who smoked weed, and those who didn't, were on opposite sides of the fence, and this issue created some tension within some of the older VW clubs. And this heated issue could have possibly played into the break up of some these same clubs as well. Enough said....

I don't think it was the weed that did it.... It was all the other drugs they did..... There were so many different things to choose from.....

Hey Deano, any chance you could elaborate in a PM or email for me?  I'm researching that era of car club history for something I'm working on, and would appreciate a little bit of insight.  Thanks!
