Thanx for including the results from this years World of Speed 36hp Challenge at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

VW folks from Switzerland, South Africa, Austrailia, Ireland as well as Canada and the U.S. have expressed an interest in the 36hp Challenge and "1" Club as well as it's bigger brother, the 130 Mile Per Hour Club for all other Volkwagens. They would like to see how fast they can get there VW's to go and without support from the Cal-Look forum and others, this segment of VW racers would have no platform to share ideas, dreams and technical information. In 2010 Dave Manoblas brought his vintage Ghia powered by one of Wolfsburg Wests new Okrasa kits.
Is this what a Vintage Cal-Look Ghia would be ? ? ?


BeetleBall raider Juan Cole pulled his big endurance motor out, came to Bonneville and ran the Stone Stock 36 category in his Herbie.


Down in Australia, the Team Ratmuller mob of Steve Muller and John Wendinger took  a brace of VW's onto their version of Bonneville, a large salt plain called Lake Gairdner. The bug sports a Stone Stock 36 and could very well be the next SS36 record holder.


The stock 36hp bug was designed to go 68 miles per hour. The Blackline Boys, Justin and Colton McCallister breathed heavily on the single 28PCI carb and motor and made it turn over 99 mph just barely missing "1" Club status with this engine. Swapping to a single dual carb set-up allowed mom Maylene, dad Dan and Colton to join this exclusive 36hp 100 mile per hour assemblage.


The ultimate Cal-Looker? No side trim, chopped top and a supercharged, fuel injucted and intercooled 36hp motor will take long time Bonneville racer Dick Beith to new 36hp speed horizons in 2011.

Below are the top speeds achieved by each of the racers at World of Speed.  I would like to offer a BIG thanx to all of the racers, crews and VW spectators who ventured to Bonneville to be part of the USFRA's 26th annual World of Speed. And thanx to Hot VW's for sending RK Smith to cover this unique VW event and for The Samba's moderator, John Moxon to come all the way from England to be part of our race.
 
I would also like to offer a sincere debt of gratitude to Wolfsburg West and Tony Moore for his support of the 36hp Challenge and the $1000.00 contingency award they provided to the fastest Wolfsburg West cylinder head equipped record breaker, Bill Hatfield of Harmony, Indiana.
