I took my car out for its first cruise on the freeway this morning. Me and Jake went to Chino skate park. Its a little loud when on the freeway. I definitly need to put in the tach so I can see what kind of rpm's it turning and get a better idea of the speed I am driving. Jake was doing good until he fell and bruised his arm a little.

Its been killing me, not being able to drive my car. Tonight is another cruise night I would really like to be at and my car is still broke. I'm waiting for a new set of Pauter rockers. I broke my Sig Erson rocker shaft about three weeks ago while driving my car to the track.

Yup the pauters are on and next is making the rear fenders removable with zuez (sp?) fasteners. I need to relocate the tail pipe too. It kind of in the way of the valve cover.

Well the 245/60 tires didn't have as much traction as I thought they would have. If they started to spin, there was no recovering. I decided to go with some 6 slicks, which means loosing the big fenders. So luckly my friend still had my orginal stock fenders and pair of stock tires and wheels I could use until I buy some new rims for the slicks he will lend me. I like the look of the big wheels more, but it might just be the shinny rims. I hope it looks good with small shinny wheels.

Greg G, did you try dropping the air pressure in the rear tyres to increase the contact area of the tyre on the road..... I like the look of the large tyres and think it would be a shame to go to a narrower rear

If so that was myself and my buddy Daniel that did the trade with ya....  Anyway I think the car is lookling good I like the stock fenders better. Jason

Yup, that was me. I don't remember what rims I traded for them though.

Time for some updates again;

Last year I broke a valve so themotor has been apart since last September. Now I am making some changes to lower the compression in hopes of puting a turbon on it later. Old compresion ratio was 10.7:1, new compression ratio will be down about 9:1. The new motor will be smaller. I will be replacing the 88mm stroke crank with a 73mm crank. Yup my 2442cc will now be a little 2026cc motor. I am changing from the borrowed Comp E heads to a pair of SuperFlo Heads I bought from Meredith Horn. Changing the cam too. Out with the Special grind and in with a FK-87. I'll try this new motor with the IDA's, then put the turbo on later this summer after I see how fast I can get this little motor to go out at Irwindale.

I'm changing the look of the car a little too, no more wide primer fenders with big fat tires out back. I put on the stock fenders and changed the wheels to a set of chromies. 5-1/2" with 215/70's out back and 4-1/2" with some 135 or 145's up front. I still need to locate front tires. May be I'll find a pair for a good price at Drag Day.

I'll post some pictures when I get time.

Here is another update on my progress. I tought I would be driving my car to Bug In 33 this week end, but my buddy Buster John had some trouble with his motor this past thursday night. So I finished up my motor and I let him borrow it for a couple races. At least my motor is done now. I just have to wait another couple weeks before I get to put it in my car and drive it.

I was able to get my front tires and mount them. I tried putting the nipples on them, but my studs are too long. I"l have to cut them down before I drive it.

Here are some pictures of the car with the wheels mounted and one of my motor.

Here's that same motor in my car...today at Bug-In it ran a 10.78 backed up with a 10.79...on only a 60 hp shot of N2O...not bad for a small displacement motor huh?

The muffler is a 2-1/2" Hooker Aero Chamber. There isn't enough room to run the pipe next to the muffler. I am going to change it to go under it. Its in the way for servicing the valves.

I can't believe I havn't driven my car since last September. Thats when I broke the exhaust valve. Not only did I end up changing cams and cranks, but when it was done I lent it to my friend John so he could compete at Fontana and Phoenix. We also took it to Volksguy's dyno session and had a little problem when a stack screw jumped in to the motor on the last dyno run. Well now I have Comp E heads back on it agian and it is ready for the street, at least after I get some intake gaskets and the backing plates for my alternator. With those parts and installing them and the distributor the motor will be ready to fire again. I can't wait to get it out to IR to make some passes.

The pile of parts on the table are John's new motor. I guess I'll be starting on the mock up the 2332 in the next couple weeks so he can be ready for Fontana in July.

The turbo is on now and I don't I'll ever go back to N/A. The power once its on boost is unreal compared to being n/a. Its a used kit that was on a sand rail, but I still like it. I have to do some thing with the waste gate. It doesn't start to open until about 13psi, which is a little too much for pump gas. The cam may a little too big too, but that will have to be changed later.

Here is a picture of it.

Now that my Boy Jake is 16 and driving, I have given him my bug. This is his daily driver. He takes it everyday to school and football practice.

The last time we raced the bug was last year in the Vegas U/S race breaking the trans on the second pass. First pass we barely got into the 11's with a clutch slipping 11.96 @ 107mph.

I replaced the turbo and 750 Demon with a pair of 48 IDA's and merge exhaust with duel mufflers. Yup, we went old school!

The motor is still the same 84X94, 48X37.8 PSI spring AJ Sims SuperFlo ported heads we ran U/S with, Pauter Rockers, AA forged Pistons and all. Its tough being a kid driving a bug in a world of hondas.

A lot has happened since the last time I posted about this car here. No Jake has been driving it for about a year. Last July we pulled the 2332 and put in a 78x94 motor with ported vw casting heads so we could freshen up the 2332 and build another turbo system for it.
We never got to freshen up the motor, but did build a new turbo system for it with a T66 and 600cfm holley. It ran great for the two days it was running, Yup two days. On the third day Jake took drove it to school and one of the heads dropped a exhaust seat. Only damage was to the head and one piston.
Now that I have another set of SuperFlo's and new piston/cylinder kit for it its all back together ready to go back in the bug.

Here is the motor ready to go in and a video of Jake driving it when it was running with the turbo.

Yesterday was motor change day.

Replaced the IDA motor with the Turbo motor. Jacob did most the work.

The motor is in and running, but has a oil leak on the #3 exhaust push rod tube at the head. I guess we will fix that next week end.

today Jacob drove his bug to school. I didn't want it there all day so i picked it up about an hour after his first class started. It was running really good, but when I got on it a little and shifted to second, it back fired out the carb. At the next light I got on it hard and took first way past 8,000 rpm ( Jake pulled the chip out of the MSD) went in to second and took it up over 8,000 again. I think the tune is getting better.
When I got home the air cleaner element was missing and so was the fan belt.

Jake found them later this afternoon. He said "maybe you shouldn't drive it anymore"...maybe he should let me know when he is going to pull the chip out before I drive it...lol

TUNING TUNING and MORE TUNING!

We replaced the 600 double pumper with a 750 Vacuum secondary carb.
What a difference. Way easier to tune. BUT we had a little issue with the boost line. With the weight of the boost line, the "T" and the dial boost regulator on it, the brass nipple under it broke off while Jake was on it in 2nd gear. It got a little out of control when the waste gate went closed due to loss of boost signal and the car got a little out of shape. He almost hit the curbs on both sides of the street!

Now I think we cracked a cylinder. I guess we will be doing a leak down test and pulling a head today. I hope we get this back together so we can run Outlaw Turbo at Bug In.

It seems I mistaken an exhaust leak for a cracked cylinder. Tightened everything up after the leak down checked out ok and the sound has gone away. I borescoped the cylinder but couldn't see where the head and cylinder meet. I need to find a 90 degree head for my boreshope so I can see back there through the plug hole.
