Simply amazing period sports car racing footage. Sideways on skinny tires

"The source of this footage, John McClure, was a member of the San Diego Jr. Chamber of Commerce and sports car fan and driver. His position with the Chamber put him in a position to combine his passions as part of the team that developed the Torrey Pines Race Course. Thankfully, John also carried a camera around with him for races up and down the West Coast.
This footage is from the 5th running of the Torrey Pines Road Races held in San Diego in November 1954, long before the property's terrible fate of becoming a golf course. This was reasonably early in the post-war interest in sportscars in America, so this is a good look at the first wave of racers in the States — Gullwing Mercedes, Jaguar XKs, Allards, Porsche 356s, and OSCAs feature prominently; as well as some well known West Coast specials."
