Is this right? if not then correct me.
In the RACE class...
E-Girl took 1st place? With a wrecked car?
Dom. TBK 2nd? with a half built engine?
Geers 3rd...Ok, i would have thought maybe 2nd here.

Who were the judges? What where they actually going by?

I saw much nicer cars than the 1st place winner, and it was actually a complete car, complete engine and all.
Something just isnt right here.

Just my 2 cents.

Getting the votes, it is in all good fun Smiley

The Classic was very good show. The Under Pressure team had a great time. When it came down to the judgements (not just the competition class) I was shocked. Alot of people were pissed. I even heard that someone threw their plaque in the trash.

Thats why I like drag racing....  It is not subjective...  You make your own results....

WOW, sounds like a popularity contest to me.    Too bad.

 Hey Tywon,
You can bring er on down to Barona anytime.  This Friday night, gates open at 4, tech at 5, racing starts at 6 and runs till midnight. First one to the stripe is the WINNER!

My bad Dom....But .... Huh How?
As for E-Girl I know T/A has its advantages, but even that didnt deserve to place, let alone 1st. Roll Eyes

In my opinion, Tywon should have placed, its bad ass and looks 100 times better in person then the pics I have got, Shawns is well diserved.... I can't take credit for my car cause I didn't build it, just changed a few things, just wanted to drag it out and have some fun....

Just the fact that all you guys brought out the cars was cool to see. In the past few years there were probably only 3-4 cars in that class and this time there were much more. Personally, the "Quiet Storm" had my vote but it doesn't even matter who won first, second, or third...they all looked good out there representing the racing community. Wink I had a blast and this was the first time my daughter was able to hang the whole day with me at a show...infact she didn't want to leave.

My primary reason for going is to show off the sponsor names, BS with all the people that want to know about the car and get some good bench racing in with good friends. If there is an award at the end, thats defintly a plus.
Does the right car always win? NO WAY. I have had a first place in the past and i was far from being the best car out there. But its a viewer choice and the vote was done based on what they felt was best (or maybe campained LOL)
"THEY" may not know what to look for as a judge or understand some of the things that go into race cars and maybe go, thats always been my "favorite" car from the magazines, etc.

If i was voting, and because i have my own bias toward engineering, i would base it on overall apperance combined with the technicality of the build.  So i would probably have put Big's and Geers cars at the top of the list. Shoot, just look at the JCL/Harvey car for some wild engineering. thats what gets me going too.

The down side to this weekend for me was i came home just as tired as i would from a full weekend of racing but didn't get any adrenaline fix to show for it. Grin

yah. participant judged shows suck in the form of wanting to get a nice lil award.  i would have like to have something. but i dont know many people in the vw community. but i definitly had fun being at the show and letting my baby be seen. and i actually drove it a nice lil 140 mile round tirp (was a test to see if it would make it or not, and it did great)

one things i liked about the sac bug- o-rama this past may ( even tho i wasn't showing there) was that they had a special "Judged" catagory. i think it was like 10 bucks more. but you had a few "judges" walking each car and giving it a rating.   that is a lil less of a popularity contest, and who you know and what club your in, like these participant judged shows.

there was definitly some sweet a$$ rides out there on sunday, and i got alot of good ideas for more things to do. time will tell  Smiley

congrats to all the winners, and everybody that had a great time out there.  except for the dude that tossed his plaque in the trash.

The show was cool regardless of the incorrect judging, but i have to say i was tired too as i went to Borona on Satarday in my 58 Rag and then the classics on Sunday. Man My lil 1300cc needs a valve adjustment now. 378 Miles were put on her this weekend.

Race cars may be FUN, but they are built for COMPETITION.
Wether its at a race or at the show, its there to compete.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

What E girl was doing was a form of competition Wink

She is not dumb. She knows how badass the other cars were in the class. Fair, maybe not but when I went up to see all the racers they were sure having a good time convincing people to vote for them.

Truly you are all winners that brought your cars out. Anytime we can get together and hang out, have a beverage or two or three and some of even a hell of allot more, including myself, is a great time.

See you guys in July.

It's a damn shame that all it takes to win is to hand out beer and burgers. People work hard to get stuff ready and make sure there cars look good and they get beat by wrecks and cars with short blocks.  No disrespect Dom, I've always liked that car besides that car is still clean enough to contend.  My problem is with cars that look like crap winning because of campaigning.  If you have to bribe people to vote for you with T/A, then you are pathetic.  You know who you are.

It is to bad that it stopped being about the cars, after all is was a car show.
I think they were just having too much fun and did no think about the hard work that everyone put into their cars.
I can understand the hard feelings for the guys that lost and should have possibly won. I  too have been beat by the popularity vote. I walked away from my  car in Sac. one time and left it in the show area and watched racing the whole day . I was beat by , in my eyes, by a car that was not even close to the calibur of my split but at the end of the day I figured I had a hell of allot  more fun than the show guys did because I got to see every round of racing and not just sit and chat and shake hands all day. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the shows and I like to compete but if it came down to "pimpin votes" no I would not compete.
I was sure glad to see all the racers that did show up.

I agree with Mike

I brought my car for the sponsor exposure, and I also brought my 69 bug for the show

LOOK if I build the cars for trophy, I am doing something wrong, yes it is good to win

But in the long run…….I would like to win on the track

For E-Girl winning 1st…….. She deserved it, she worked hard for it  “you go girl”……

Congrats to all the winners, way to go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“My 2 Cents”  for that is worth …………………………

I agree, they did work very hard to put the car back together with the help of the VW community, but is it back together in 1st place show conditions? NO!
Anyways, this post is getting pretty ugly, so im through with it. Just had to say what i felt.
I have nothing against Esther or Dom, they are both freinds of mine, but what happend was just wrong.
I do think "Still Fatal" should have won 1st place. And as happy as Esther may be about winning, im sure she'de agree with me about this.
BIg Serious worked just as hard if not harder to put this car together in time for the classics, and im sure he spent lots of $$$ doing so, and probably with less help from the VW community than E-Girl had.
Anywho, congrats winners on your unfair Win.

PEACE! IM OUT! Cool
