Going into the weekend, an event organizers worst nightmare, predicted rain. Yes, several of us stressed real bad on Saturday with predicted rain on 40% on Sunday. However, we rolled the dice and had NO rain on Sunday Grin . Very hot and muggy with 90% humidity all day. But, I take the hot/muggy weather over rain anyday. The skys where overcast with the sun breaking though at times. We were set for a great day at the track. Several race cars and campers had rolled into Temple Raceway Saturday evening getting ready for the first anual Texas Volks Blast on Sunday.

As Sunday morning wore on, several racers, show cars, swap meeters, and most important, the fans were rolling the the gates. The grounds were in pretty good shape with a few wet areas from recent rains. We had a very large amount of show cars with some very, very good quality cars at that. Several were past featured Hot VW mag cars. Also, we had a very good showing from the swap meet and toy vendors.

The racers car counts looked very good. In the Hotrod Performance Automotive Pro Stock class, 7 cars made the field. In the CB Performance Bracket Class, 25 cars made the first round. In the Oak Hill Automotive Street Class, 7 cars made the first round.

In the Pro Stock class, Damon Harmon takes the win over David Crow.

In the Bracket class, the semi's lined up James (Snowman) Brooke vs Curtis Conner and Al Smith receiving the bye run. Snowman takes the win lining up with Al Smith in the final. Al dails a 7.06 to Snowman's 7.64. Snowman goes Red with a .424 RT to Al's .545 RT. Al runs it out the back with a dead on the dail 7.0600 at 94.18 Al Smith takes home the $2000.00 winner payout. On a side note, both of these cars had new motors with NO testing runs prior to the race. Not bad for shaking down new combos and going rounds. Congrats to Big Al for taking home the BIG money.

In the Street class, Mike Amaral lined up against Air Cooler Steve ( I bet most people know who I am taking about, LOL). Mike takes the win. Congrats Mike

Overall, a very good event. Dyno Don added his special touch to the MC part of the show. Eric Ellis along with his wife did a GREAT job. John Strnad also did a GREAT job. The bounce house and kids activities went over very well for the fans and kids. I had a great time and look foward to next years Texas Volks Blast. Thanks to Dean Kirstin of HotVW Mag and www.aircooledmonthy.com for covering the event.

Thanks to everyone for helping this event BE successful. Carl Nolen.

Sorry I missed it.....

I've been back in Oregon for A few weeks dealing with some crazieness... Grampa broke his hip, then Gramma ended up in the ICU with here heart so I had to make a flight like right now.... Then Grampa got up when he was told over and over not to... He ended up falling and braking the other hip.... He had a stroke in surgery and only made it another week.... SOOOO.... I have to go back to Oregon again and get Gramma down here.... Kinda put everything on hold, Even VW events....

Whew, what an event (and the crazy few days leading up to it)! I'm wiped out, but am glad to hear that everyone had a good time.

For the first time ever, I didn't take one action photo of the racers or show cars at a VW event - just too busy. I'm bummed about that, but will try to gather photos from those who were taking pics, and post them all in one place when I get a chance.

Dean Kirsten from Hot VW's was taking plenty of pics, so you should be able to check 'em out in the magazine soon. Also, Steve from Aircooled Monthly Magazine was in attendance, and will be posting pics and an article soon. Thanks for the coverage, Dean and Steve.

Congratulations to:
David Crow and Damon Harmon, who were the last men standing in the Hot Rod Performance Automotive Pro Stock Class. Damon drove his Quarter Toy II for the win.

James Brooke for making it to the finals of the CB Performance Bracket Class, and Al Smith for taking home the victory.

Mike Amaral and Steve Haldeman (sp?) for racing their cars into the Oak Hill Automotive Street Class finals. Mike got the winning trophy and $100 cash prize.

Robert Bulkley picked up both $100 cash prizes from Lo' Cash Racing, by using his "cosmetically challenged" entry to get the best reaction time and run low E/T in the Street class.

Joe Smith won the Best of Show award, in the Charles Maund Volkswagen Show Class, with his beautiful '67 Type 1.

If we can get some more people to help out, I'll see you at the Texas Volks Blast next year!

WHIPED OUT - thats a good thing. You should see Keith and Kathy after one of their events. We're more like ZOMBIES. First thing on Keiths mind is FOOD, STEAK, SWEET TEA, AND SLEEP.
