Once again Grand Bend Motorplex(Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) has approached me about the Northern VW Nationals 1/8mile VW event held in mid August. Only 1 hour from the Port Huron, Mich. border this Race/Show/Swap has been rained out several years in a row. Last year it called for rain but we didn't have a drop. Unfortunetly the forecast scared a lot of racers off but the show went on. This year the track has proposed to run the event on the Saturday(which it normally has) but this year with the Motorcycle event that has usually ran on the Sunday. The VW's and Motorcycles will share the track that day(Saturday). If it rains we have the Sunday open as a rain date. This show has been going on for ten years. Its a great facility, camping on the grounds, 5 minutes to the beach. I hate to see another VW event get canned. We need the support of the racers from the USA to make the event a success. Just wondering if we can get a show of hands to see who would attend to help keep this event on the menu. Those of you who have attended this event before speak up and voice an opinion. Thanks John

Sounds good John, Id be willing to bring my car if work permits.  What kind of problems do racers experience bringing cars across the border?

As soon as you go through Canada Customs you will be asked if your race car has snow tires. Ha Ha!. Usually its best to have some proof that the car you are racing belongs to you, like a title or proof of purchase. They will probably ask you if you are planning on selling the car in Canada. Best to say no at that point other wise its the rubber glove treatment. Its also a good idea to have a list of items that you are carrying in an enclosed trailer to avoid them doing the search. Honestly if you're up front with them and just say where you are going and why, you shouldn't have any problems. When we cross over into the USA its the same deal. We get asked a dozen questions, they try and confuse the hell out of you, and if we have  any citrus on board, they want it. Don't you guys have oranges over there? I'll try and get some more details for you to avoid any panic. John

Good deal!  Support the idea of supporting the VW races.  If the car is running at that time of summer, I'll make it.  Thanks for the info.     Jim

Unfortunately this Race has now been canceled due to conflicting dates with another East coast event. Thanks for all your support over the years. John
