The Las Vegas VW Club is proud to announce a new project aimed at contributing to our community. The LVVWC, along with the donations from generous businesses and individuals, will completely restore and customize a 1966 VW Bug and then sell raffle tickets throughout the year. The prize will be awarded at the 2009 Las Vegas Bug O Rama on Sunday October 4th at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway right on the Drag strip around 1pm. The Las Vegas VW Club memebers, as well as anyone else how wants to help, will provide the labor to dissassemble, refurbish, and reassemble the bug. We are sending out requests to the VW community as well as others in the automotive industry to help by contributing parts, supplies, or cash donations to enable us to really make this a top quality car, We will sell raffle tickets throughout the year at local and out of state shows as well as local cruise nights, meetings, and special events. The proceeds will go to a yet to be determined charity. We will donate 90% of the proceeds to the charity and 10% will go to the club to cover misc. expenses and the obtain a vehicle for next year. My personal goal is to raise $20,000. The club will limit it's take to $2000. So anything over $20,000 will 100% go to the charity. I will post a complete list of what we need and keep it updated as we obtain parts and realize other things we need. I will also have a complete list of companies and individuals who have donated and what they've donated along with a link to their website or email addy. We realize these are tough economic times and sincerely appreciate and need your help to make this a reality. I will update this constantly, so check back for progress and maybe ask the place you work for if they would be interested in helping out in this cause.
Thanks for any and all help, Las Vegas VW Club staff

This is how we got the bug from the Wagen

Very rust free and pretty straight. The rear end was cut off at one time with a saw right through the fenders, decklid, and apron, Luckily the parts were saved and were reattached

After a few hours of teardown we had the rolling chassis

And the bare body shell

A day later we stripped the suspension and took the pan to Surface Effects to get the pan stripped and dropped the transmission off at RC Trans for a complete rebuild.

Stay tuned for more progress.

The car looked really tight to start with, when will you have raffle tickets available to sell?

The pan is stripped and blasted. It sure is purdy. Now we just need a coat or POR or Rust Bullet to seal it up than start reassembly. The shop that donated the blasting is Surface Effects. They charge about $250 to bake and blast a complete pan. Ask for Justin and let them know you heard about them form the LVVWC raffle bug project so they know their contribution is showing a return so they might help us next year. Their number is (702) 697-7057

Numerous additions the contributors on the top of the thread. The list is getting huge.  More details on the Vegas Club website. Anyway heres the latest with the car. And we did secure the Ronald McDonald House as the charity that will recieve our donation.

Got the body back from blasting. Most of the body was done in plastic and any rusty areas were gone over with garnet. Carl really did a great job and in two days. The name of the company is Plastic Media Strippers on Bell. The reciept for this particular job was valued at $1100. That's a heck of a contribution. If you get anything done there, tell him thanks for supporting the raffle bug project.
Jeff (LVVWC member) also brought the body work supplies from Utah with him. He hooked us up with metal etch primer, primer surfacer, filler, glazing putty, sand paper, roloc disks, and all the necessary reducer and catalyst for the primers and filler. This was personally donated by him and that was a huge help to get the body work underway. Now all we need is some volunteers to come over and spread some mud, sand it down, and get her primed. Any amature or pros out there want to donate a few hours to the build?

Thanks Jeff for the supplies !!!
