Thanks Paul

We have a good time with this one. No pressure, just fun. Have talked to Ernie and Monty in New Mexico, they are coming. The Inspector is coming out. Heard from Eric Alred....hope this is still a plan....you need to defend and get the rest of the Utah boys out. Denver area cars are coming out after talking it up in Denver this past weekend. The Carters from the great Northwest have hinted about a guest appearence...that would be great. A possible trip out from the Mid West boys. How about those guys from Vegas....Dino and Tom....its close. HOPE TO SEE A HANDFULL OF MY RACING BUDDIES !

Hey Tom

500 miles on the nose from vegas. 7 to 8 hour tow with a trailer. Racing only though. I will try the show again if no problems arise between now and then ....thanks.

Racing buddies

I have heard from a number of you and this may turn out to be some great fun. A number of cars from Denver as well as Salt lake are making it out. A few from the west coast as well.

Art and Brad from Salt Lake....were calling you out Grin

First of all,..... have I ever mentioned ALL the help that I get from VW Paradise?

Wednsday night Jason pulls a "Late-Nighter'  getting his Turbo motor from the White car reconfigured to use my carbs and NOS, Next day he and Kris get it tuned for the high altitude in Grand Junction, ... I pick the car up late at the shop, get all loaded and on the road at 3am Friday....

Hit some heavy traffic goin thru Vegas, it took every ounce of energy I had in me NOT to Stop at the tables,   Grin  Grin  thats Ok , we got a couple of weeks to go for that!!!

What an AWSOME drive, just outta Nevada into Arizona go thru the Virgin River Gorge, ,,spectacular  high rock  formations with a winding river running thru it,....get into Utah and find some even more spectacular rock formations and deep gorges, very high rock faces,  like the Grand Casem" Grin,  these rock formations go on forever it seemed, then thru the Fish Lake Forrest found some fair sized running rivers thru this , got into some fairly high mountain ranges, get into Colorado , find snow on some distant peaks, then everything turns a darker shade of green, into Grand Junction the Colorado River skirts the highway,....this is some VERY COOl scenery to me,   HELL, I dont even have to get the car off the trailer, this trip has ALREADY been worth it for the wife and I,..{we dont get out much}
by the time we get to the Hotel we are pretty tired and grubby so we didnt make the BBQ at Foreign Aid,  get out to the track saturday morning to find Ernie and Monty alreaday in line , Eric comes along from inside, some more cars start showing up and we are IN!
Eric has our Pits all cordoned off along the returm road and this quickly filles up with VWs ready for some racing action. The day is shared with the Local V-8 guys  running their Summit Series and also the local Jr. Dragster bunch.

The morning starts off with a heavy breeze that faded for the most part but never went away entirely. I dont think it was ever a factor, I did not feel any movement in the car at the top end myself,  had a "rain Delay" at one point but that did not last but a few minutes....

Got to meet  a lot of VW people that I havent met before, this was a relatively small yet very personel event, 19 race cars in the program and a few spectator VWs as well,  this was a VERY COOL event for me to attend..

To any of you guys that thought about attending this but did not, YOU MISSED OUT!
The Winners in eack Class walked away with CASH in Hand!!!

thanks Eric!!!

there was even a Chevy powered Oval Window in the Summit event, had a blower sticking out of the hood although I did not go check it out, I did get a couple of pics of it going by on the return road,..
I did manage to get a shot of every car at this event, I,ll get them up later, Got a couple of vids, {the wife films ALL my runs}  got a vid of Eric standing the manx up on its tail, did not get the shot of him almost taking the tree out..

Thanks to rick Mustard for picking up my deck lid off the highway,  { I forgot to put the pins in it} , it went flying off the car,  Got a little road rash,.... its all good Grin Just another "Story" to tell. Cheesy

Great times at the dinner following the races, cool lightshow with the lighning in the mountains,  Sorry we could not make the Breakfast, Eric, we were on the road at 5am....

I,ll get pics and vids up tomarrow, I gotta hit the Hay!

thanks again for the Good times, Eric!

Hey Paul, good to hear you made it home. It was great getting to know you and your wife!  Thanks for the good competition and the conversation later that night.  You two were great!  Thanks to Eric for putting on another great event!  It was awesome and even better than the first year we came out, as I got to play with all of you too.  Thanks for not taking out the Christmas tree, as I was next in your path, feeling like I was launching on butter(no traction! All I saw was him come down, then sparks and a hard right curve as he over corrected towards his wall!)  It was great getting to know a bunch of other fellow enthusiasts as well.  As Paul said, those of you that coulda/shoulda or woulda come but didn't, you missed out.  There is no other VW event like this.  Its the most fun I've had at the track in years!  Count us in for next year!  Chip

As you can see Eric put on a great show at Grand Junction.  We had wonderful time racing.  Got to meet some more drag racers and visit with some old friends.  This was our third trip for this race and we plan on attending next year as well.  Eric really does put on a good race.  His wife and family also provide an awsome breakfest.  We always have a great time.
Thanks for the hard work Eric.
