Good Job building that casino! Re:stopping on the track..drag bugs go from point A to B as fast as possible. My VW dislikes idling and when I had to stop as I did at Barona, it died on me a couple times--only likes to be in the high RPMs. Coming to a complete stop on a live drag strip is counterintuitive and Barona is the only strip I raced at (up and down the west coast at least) where this happens. It's not the officials that I worry about-it's the other guy next to me! Seems like an accident waiting to happen. It's all about how the cars can exit safely. Good luck over there, wish we had your cool weather.

Most of the guys at Barona on saturday have never been there before. The guys that race at this track on a regular basis almost ALWAYS drive or coast OFF the track at the top end where thier Tow vehicles are waiting for them. A lot of times on saturday the Fast cars, Eric C, Frank and Hector were stopping ON the track at the top end and waiting for thier Tow vehicles. We all patiently waited for them and when they were off the track we proceeded. At the drivers meeting the Announcer explained the right lane right of way, if the car on the left is way ahead and clear to move over then do so if safe and all is OK. The Starter has a pair of high powered Binioculars to see whats goin on down there, there is a spotter at the top end at all times with radio communication to the tower and starter. I have been going to Barona on a regular basis and have become familiar with the officials and track operation. The regulars are a bunch of V-8 guys with some pretty fast cars, quite a few Dragsters a couple of Alterds, all reaching speeds around 140 to 150 mph with no stopping or Exit issues. I am usually the ONLY VW there so saturday was quite special for me. Extra special that now the top MPH is held by a VW. I promise you tho that these guys are gonna be workin on that one. Oh and on the Casino, I dont do any actual WORK. I just APPROVE or REJECT the Work that is done by others. LOL Barona is one of the nicer Casinos I ahve had the pleasure to APPROVE!

Here's another one from Saturday night. I asked Joel if he could show me the pan on the next run.... And this is what I got. (Gee, and I thought the track went from left to right...)

Yep, best natural lighting I have ever seen at a drag strip. Someone needs to put on the West Coast 1/8th Mile Nationals at this track!

Lots of VERY nice photos in this thread. Thanks for sharing, guys!
Paul, I did some "levels" (lighting) work on Dan's shot of your car, as well as sharpening it just a tad. I think the changes bring the car out of the shadows (I hope that Dan doesn't mind). See attached...

This was the first time ever to Barona at first I was thinking where the hell am I, but after arriving and checking the place out it is very nice track. And the wheather was great it was pretty cool in the evening with a slight breeze. Thanks to the Lauffers for bringing us this event, not a huge number of cars but watching the Nail and several big HP turbo cars made it all worthwhile. Next time I will be sure to have my car ready,
P.S. for those that enjoy spectating you cannot beat this place, you can get pretty close to the track especially off the starting line...great viewing locations.

Deano, Nice photo of the Baron and shoot! I walked down there to shoot a few shots, and I took a number of practice pics and then my batteries crapped out on me! I walked back to the truck, reloaded and then decided it was too dark for any further shots at the top end. I've uploaded my pics of the Barona portion of the Classic weekend. I retouched and cropped them all nicely, but my gallery software "messes" with the images when I upload them. So if anyone is interested in any of the photos, please know that I have much clearer copies on my PC! Click the link or any of the pictures to see the 52 shots I've got up of the event. Thanks Eric! Those pics were taken with my new camera. It's a Canon S3 is. I bought it on chance, because I thought that I could make it work. I can't remember where I heard about it? (Nice Suggestion Eric! Thanks!)It was my first time shooting with the camera other than what I had practiced around my house for only 1 week before the event. There are a lot of great settings that I need to learn to navigate. But all in all, it was awesome! I just wish my friggin' gallery would not alter the files when I upload them. My originals look awesome and are sharp! Scott Faivre

I don't know if you guys knew this, but the guy in the orange shorts that's part of the Paradise crew took that part of the intake right to the thigh! He's lucky it wasn't as bad as it could have been! Kris said he had a nice bruise there though. Well the Honda rail blew an intake off, and the VW nail broke the track record! I stick to the VWs! Great work VW Paradise! Thanks for putting on the event and the shop tour! Scott Faivre
