1975 my friend Kimo Lino and I raced a 67 camaro with tunnel rams and 4 pilipinos down King street. We had a 62 rag rust bucket painted splatter and a 74x87, norris 408s, good heads and 48IDAs and close gears. We was tie tie and then full cops pulled us over and took long time for them to decide what to do so they laughed at us for racing a V8 muscle car and gave us chance and gave the camaro full tickets. After that we went straight to Waikiki and Ala Moana for some more fun. Kaimuki, Oahu was fun back then.

Back many years ago, with my 2007cc Weber motor, in my daily driver '69 beetle.  New RX-7 pulls up with new car window sticker still on the passenger side.  Guy driving and woman in passenger side.  I have my window down both of us at traffic light at the bottom of a long uphill.  I don't really think anything but all of a sudden I hear the hoover vacuum noise and I'm thinking, "I think this dude is going for it."  I run it up in first gear, but not pushing yet, wondering is he just jumping off the light or really going.  The when he gets good rubber shifting into second I think, "Okay we're going."  Punch the throttle down, by now he's got about a car length on me.  Reel him in second gear, and then just walk away when I get into third.  Not really a big deal but it's nice when something so simple can make your day.

Not the best story, but I felt good.

Doing the Bugtober Fest Rally here in Reno, I pulled up at the light next to this guy with a Chevy 302 (yes, the bad boy 302) in a 68 Bug.  Tunrs green and I rev up and clutch out fast with tires squeeling and roared away with a GIANT hole shot...turns out, he had it in 3rd and stalled.  I thanked him for letting me win.

there is no law that says cops can crush your car for street racing- stop spewing garbage that you read some where without checking up on.  There is a law that allows cops to crush cars that are stolen or have altered vin tags- Which is of coarse common among racecars and street bikes.

Raced Corona and Riverside from'80-'84 about use to hang out at a greasee burger joint on 6th Street.  and old Gemco out at the Tyler Mall.

Another one  with "Slow's"  Lime Green bug I was up at Scooter's on a Sunday night always egg Slow to get his Bug running I am up thre hang out waiting for something or someone to race.  And Slow shows up in his bug,  Tells me it running great up to about 6,500 rpms  well this motor use to peg the 8 grand tach all day long so I hop in we take off west on Orangethorpe he get on it a couple of times it starts crapping out these guys pull up in a new niissian turbo car.   LOL at us Slow toss them a rev the toss one back we take off got them to the middle of the intersection and they wiped our butt like nothing Slow and I are just looking at each other like we just had or candy taken away from us.  He is getting really pissed off the car has never done anything like this.  We pull up to the next light they are LOL @ us I tell them lets turn around and go for it again on the way back to Scooter's and if they want to since the spanked us so bad we can run for money.  Well they said ok I had Slow turn right on to Beach (Pull a Michigan left) then U turn  back to the left hand turn lane to head back east towards Scooter's well as he shot up to make the U turn I told him to nail it well it starts spit I turn off the headlights and BAM  8 grand instant  OH we have charging problem easy enough to fix.  Kewl ,  We get on to Orangethorpe they pull out from the Sizzler pull up next to us at Magnolia.  WE go for it again I kil the headlights and their jaws drop we LoL Pull up to the light they said that must be some Nitrous system you got there.   We parked the bug out front went into Scooter's to see what was up. Those kids came up to us want to see us race someone following us around like puppies looking for their mama.

This is just one link I found elsewhere on the web, looks legit to me.  Either way, I'll stick to enjoying the stories of the old schoolers and avoid that scene myself. Lol. Don't want to find out the hard way.

I'm suprised I didn't post this one years ago, but it wasn't there.  So here it goes:
Back when my bug just had the 1914 turbo set up with a little weber progressive carb., I raced a guy here at work who had a subaru wrx.  We decided to go at lunch time to a road not far from our shop that was out of the area and a number of other co-workers (about eight) piled into a lifted f350 and came to watch.  We get down there, line up, and run em!  I took him out the hole and pulled on him into 3rd when he slowly passed me by (not bad I think for a little t3 turbo and weber progressive carb) to take the win.  I passed him on my shut down to the end of the road so I was gonna be the first one out to the main road.  I looked to my left and I see a cop car coming down the road towards us and we have no way of getting away.  So I stop, shut my engine down, and as I look up the cop blocks the street so we can't get out.  With terror of loosing my little bug I look the cop right in the eyes, only to see it was another one of the techs from work screwing with us!  I still get a cold chill just thinking about it.

Back in 1984 on my way to the Small Car Specialties Showdown driving on the 5 freeway at the crack of dawn, Not a single car to be seen in either direction. My Friend Mike and I were sailing along around 80 until we got off on Ball Rd. Small Car is only a few blocks from the exit before you hit those railroad tracks right before the store. Mike asks me to let this thing loose seeing how nobody was anywhere to be seen! at the 1st signal I go through the gears and it sounds good, next light same thing. the last section I stage the car, speed shift every gear until we slow down for the entrance to Small Car. Kent Dahlberg comes running over yelling and screaming at us "what do you think you doing" as I'm about to tell him something here comes Johnny Law with his light off and pulls up and says " I didn't see you but, I could here you all the way from the freeway" what are you doing? I was test driving to see if I want to buy this Old Bug. The Nice Policeman let us go with a warning! Kent was not happy with me but, In the Magazine center spread photo from the show has my black 56 Bug being the only car not facing the same direction as all the other cars in the car show that day. We ended up racing a Camaro on the 405 on the way home and they could not catch us no matter what they tried. The Camaro finally saw us getting off the freeway and asked what the Hell kind of engine do you have? A Volkswagen! Mike and I giggled like little kids for years after that day.

growing up on long island, ny i can tell you i have seen some serious street racing. i can remember going down to a famous road in brooklyn known as fountain avenue and watching what all i can say was the most craziest street racing i ever saw. hundreds if not thousands of people lining the streets with cars doing burnouts and the people just pushing off the cars keeping them from hitting them. i can remember a decent amount of toyota carolla's with mazda rotory engines and no exhaust running some guys with some heavy duty stuff. but then if the cops didn't show up the big stuff would roll in enclosed trailers from jersey, brooklyn, long island, and the bronx and the big money races would happen. i can even remember when i first went looking for this place we got lost and went in a diner and my friend asked a cop sitting having coffee where the avenue was and he said you guys going to watch the races if so thats cool he tells us to look out for him he'll be driving a 57 prostreet t-bird.

i can aslo remember going down and doing my own fair share of racing on the famous rt 231 also known as deer park avenue aka DPA. this spot was in hot rod and car craft magazine as being one of the best cruise spots in the country. this was right in my town i grew up in and for many years was my best days of my life hanging up there with my boys and cruising for chicks. ahh the good old days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCygTHau1ng
