Hey Guys. I've got a Swingaxle car that due to wheel tuck etc Im going to convert to a IRS. In doing so I'll be running rear 4lug or some custom wheels in the rear. So now comes the problem ad that is to match the front wheels with the rear wheels.
Can I simply buy a set 4 lug front drums for my Link Pin spindles so my wheels are the same, or does someone sell a drum that fits the pre "68" spindles. This car is a 1961.. Oh forgot to mention that I don't want to use adapters due to several reasons, space etc. Thanks for any help.

You can use 67' or similar brake drums on your IRS and still keep the wide five wheels and bolt pattern.

Yeah, just swap all of your swing axle stuff (backing plates, wheel cyls, shoes, 5 bolt drums) to your IRS arms. The 4 bolt drum is wider than the 5 bolt were the axle nut tightens down, so you'l need to use a spacer under the axle nut to take up the extra length of the axle when using the 5 bolt drum. I think the thickness is 9/16 of an inch.

Wait I'm not sure your understanding me or if I eplained myself correctly. Bassically what I'm doing is removng the SwingAxel and using a IRS setup for the rear so the Rear wheels will now become the 68 and up 4 lug Drums. My problem is how do I match the front wheels with the rears because the front is still Link/King pin spindes, this is the part that I'm asking how to make into a 4 lug wheel?

Cpl ways to go,cheap way have the drums drilled and machined to 4 lug pattern ,or... buy narrowed beam and get Disc brakes which are 4 lug,Or get the 5 lug drums to work on the rear w/spacers between the drum and bearings??

It is you that doesn't understand. Install your 5 lug brakes onto the IRS stub axles unless you are set on having 4 lug wheels now. Wait I'm not sure your understanding me or if I eplained myself correctly. Oh.... In that case, EMPI makes a set of wheel bearings with the inner diameter to go on a king pin spindle, and the outer diameter to fit in a 4 bolt ball joint drum/disc. The part #'s are 17-2795, and 17-2796. These are commonly used with the disc conversions, but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work for the drums. One thing to remember if using drums is that KP backing plates don't have any holes to adjust the brakes, and neither to 4 bolt drums. You could either open some holes in the backing plate, or one in the drum patterned after the location of the one in the original 5 bolt KP drum.

gkeeton.... Thanks Dude WoW. Finially someone with a Brain that can read and understood what I wanted to do. Unlike that Elmo Dude who apperently can't read.
Yea, I figured that it would come down to a bearing issue as I thought that the spindles were different between the KingPin & Balljoint axels just wasn't sure if the width of the brake dums / Discs were the same on both cars.

What Elmo and I were trying to nicely say is that you can keep your wide 5 wheels if you want to. it's a fairly easy conversion for the rear drums

You're only the second person I've come across that wanted the 4 bolt wheels. That's why everyone assumed you wanted to keep the 5 bolt ones. The front shoes are the same width from BJ to KP, but I don't know how the 4 bolt drum will be offset on the KP spindle to match up with the shoes. You may need to customize the KP bearing spacer, or it may line up. It's something you're just going to have to trial, and error fit.
